Again, Fender being overrated BS

I personally am not a Fender freak AT ALL!! BUT, the one I did own, I would have LOVED to keep. It was a red Japanese Jaguar. My issue was not craftsmanship but rather that they are only made in a four-string configuration. For the price, I think they are a pretty decent bargain. BUT, $1799 for an American V? I just don't think the value is there at all.

In 1978, I would have agreed to every word in the OP's rant. Now? My 2011 American Deluxe 4 is one of the nicest playing and sounding basses I have ever owned. Does that mean they all are? Of course not. But across the board, there's no comparing the quality of today's basses with the dogs of the late 70s

Mary Ann !!!

She was hotter than Ginger.

I don't understand all the hostility towards the OP. People don't have the same response to threads that profess a dislike for other brands, so why get up in arms when it's Fender?

People have exactly the same response to ANY similar troll thread claiming a particular product or brand is "crap."

And they should.

So there.

;)

Ibanez BTB 5's a that completely blew the above basses away, and they're made in Indonesia, too.
Yeah, the BTB basses sound pretty good. Aren't the necks a bit like tree trunks, though? The one I have is. Mine sounds good, but it doesn't play as well as any of my other basses. That big, bulky neck takes some of the fun out of it. The saddles are buried on the B and G strings, and the action is still just a bit high for my liking. It's giggable, though. Just gives my left hand a workout. The plus side of the BTB is, after playing it, my Stingray 5 feels like I'm playing on four string neck.

Fender stuff, just like a bunch other brands, is indeed overpriced, by far, since we're being sold more than anything, a name, the quality is another whole story, let's discuss that please:

I don't think that the price/quality ratio is rational, but is not insane either, so, you do actually get what you're paying for? The building is close to flawless, the design is ageless, and the sound, well the sound is quality sound, and I'm not saing that as a fanboy, Fender equipment is pretty much standard equipment: no fanned fret designs, standard bridges and tuning machines in most of their models, no fretless necks, neither +21 frets and no exotic woods, but still, they are quality products.

So, again, are you getting what you paid for? No, but are they quality products? Yes they are, I wouldn't mind paying +500 dollars for something that's going to give me hours of cool sounds and (please admit it) great playability and comfort!

Fender gear isn't "overpriced, by far". It's not overpriced, period. Where are you getting this impression?

Brand new prices:

Fender American Standard Jazz: $1,349.00
Musicman Stingray: $1,470.00
G&L L-2000: $1,350.00
Rickenbacker 4003: $2,159.00
Gibson Thunderbird: $1,499.00

Hey, look at that! The Fender American Standard Jazz is the LEAST expensive of all it's peers.

I really am interested in where you get the impression that Fender products are "overpriced, by far". Maybe you can expound on that? UNLESS you're going to come back and say "Yeah, well I can buy a SX bass online fer a hunnerd dollas". If that's where you're going to go, don't bother.

I have had 2 of those beautiful red (with matching headstock) Jaguar basses. one before the house caught fire, one to replace it. It was my tone chameleon until i got a Bongo (stealth too!). The fender has slid to the bottom of the list with regard to frequency of use, but every time i play it, i remember why i haven't sold it and probably never will. I have determined there is a Fender 'sound' like there is a Music Man sound and Rickenbacker sound... I guess my ears just dont prefer my own stuff on a Fender, but they can be quite nice. Saying Fender is "overrated bs" is bold considering, say Rickenbacker is SO expensive and doesn't offer much variety. At least you can find a great price point and configuration options with Fender (Lets not forget the value of Squier).

Hey, I'm just stating my opinion, don't yell at me, I'm a sensitive kid... I might cry, but let me elaborate:

You just helped me build my point, and as you say, yeah, it's the LEAST expensive on that list, but remember also I said ''like [...] other brands'', that's where you came in, stating Gibson (good basses, but it's pretty basic equipment), Musicman (love them, hate the price tags, but that's because I'm cheap), G&L (well I'm ashamed I never heard of them before!) and Rickenbacker (sweet Jesus I WANT ONE! I'm a bitch for the classic designs), and well, their crazy price tags.

I'm not saying they're not worth their price (If I did I take that back, I didn't meant to) BOOOOOOT, when it comes to build materials, electric/electronic components and sound quality, they sometimes are exceeded against some cheaper or equally priced products...

Or am I mistaken?

I don't understand all the hostility towards the OP. People don't have the same response to threads that profess a dislike for other brands, so why get up in arms when it's Fender?

It's pretty simple, really. There are no other brands getting bashed around here the way Fender does. Always Fender, always hostile, and always with gross exaggerations. (as if anyone will believe that "two credit cards" will fit into the neck gap on a Roscoe Beck lol)

You lot are acting like he's insulted you personally and are saying he needs to chill out, when his post is relatively mild, and you guys are the ones that need to chill out.

These Fender bashing threads always contain an insult directed at Fender players. Whether blatant or insinuated, it's always present. Can you not see it in the closing statement of the rant?

To wit:

I swear, even with Music Man, yes Music Man, these big companies seem to get lazy like nothing else, simply from people gawking unwisely at them because of their overly exaggerated, name-dropping reputation.

I personally like threads that allow people to hack away at that "overly exaggerated name-dropping reputation" but with facts and metrics. When i began looking at basses, all anyone ever said was 'fender'. if a thread can give good reason to look elsewhere and reduce 'mystique' (good AND bad), thats why we join these forums.... to talk(bass) it out ;-)

There's a reason why people likes them so much, and let's face it, is not only the mainstream (yeah, a pretty important factor, but not the most important), but a lot other reasons why the Fender basses are loved by many, even the greatest ones.
