Everything that has been said about the Wickershams is true. They are the nicest folks I have ever had the pleasure to meet.
I bought a used Series I long scale small body fretless in the 80’s. Because of the neck dive on that particular configuration Alembic will never make another. There were only 8 ever made.
I also have a (bought used) 5 string Essence with Rogue/Europa electronics. That is my go to bass for gigging. I have not come across any other brand bass with such tonal versatility. The tone filter circuitry is genius and it did make me a better player because the string vibration is totally and wholly reproduced and amplified with such distinct and crystal clarity.
I recently finished (my own work) a neck through 5 string fretless build and included Alembic pickups, electronics, bridge and tailpiece which I purchased from Alembic. I posted my build pics on the Alembic club forum with the encouragement of Mica who was extremely supportive of my efforts. I needed a circuit diagram of the electronics I am using and Ron Wickersham personally drew up the circuit diagram for me by hand and sent it over to me!!!! That blew me away.
These are the nicest and most decent people I have ever met and done business with. They are genuinely caring and proud of the instruments they make (and the sounds you create) and treat every owner (yes even if it is purchased used) with the respect and attention of a custom build customer.
Cost is a secondary thought and real value is had in the build quality, tone and lifetime service/commitment to the owners of Alembic basses and guitars. I don’t feel like an owner but like a custodian of their combined creative genius that allows me to share my art utilising their art.
Respect.
