Alibaba Bass

@JeezyMcNuggles and @scuzzy would one (or both, if you like) of you please message me with contact information for this builder?

I'm actually thinking of getting both a bass and guitar (matching) because at this price I can finally reach my goal of having two "forever instruments" (which means I really can thin my heard quite a bit) and being done with my G.A.S.

Specifically @JeezyMcNuggles I don't want you to think I am "stealing" part of your build because if it hadn't been for my swearing off 7ender products years ago, I would have plunked down the cash for this:

I actually have a similar plan, I am considering to order him a guitar matching the specs and looking of the custom bass they made for me

Update

Bursted.

Looks like the back still needs another coat. But, the front is looking pretty good.

No update on the neck though.
That's looking great. Confidence in how my build is going to look is definitely high based on the progress they're making on your bass.

If my first build with them works out, a fanned-fret 4 string Ric-a-like is in my future. I've always thought the Ric shape would work really way with fanned frets. I'd do like you did and have them give the body some proper contours, though, because real Rics are an ergonomic nightmare.

Well, they didn't fix the fingerboard. They finished the neck it as it was. I told them that they can just route that board out for white blocks instead of fins. I decided that having them scrap the neck, would probably give me something of worse quality. Last thing I want is a rush job. Kinda bummed, but I think it's best that way. They also need to paint the headstock black.

But, the body was ready for the final gloss coat. That's looking good. I can see the scratches ready for finish.

This was last week. I should be getting another update this week. Hopefully, correct, and put together.

That's disappointing about the inlays. Am I understanding correctly that they offered to remake the neck, but you told them to continue on with the already built one? I'm also having a bass done by this builder, so I'd like to know how they approach issues like this.

No, he told me that he thought I said not to worry about it, and the neck is fine how it is.

That wasn't what was said, and he had told me that they had already fixed it.

They would make me a new fngerboard though, if I told them it was un acceptable. But, I think then it would be a rush job to make up lost cost. Know what I mean? So, I told him just to route and set blocks n that neck that was already completed.

There's no way he could've mis understood that. I sent him a picture along with it, and he told me that he remembered that it was supposed to be fins. It's on the order sheet. He then told me that they had already fixed it. They didn't.

Well, in fact, not the best way to handle the situation. I think that the misunderstanding is more that he crossed the informations between your build and another order build.

In my case, there was a similar mistake and he offered to remake the neck without inlays.

We can see in your photos, some neck that seems to be Squier branded (we can't see the whole logo but it what it looks like to me?). Looks like they are building for Squier as well.
Looks very similar to Squier Affinity neck no ?

Talking about your headstock, the grain of the maple look nice on it. A translucid violet/black burst matching the body would had looked stunning on it !

I think the translator is the biggest obstacle.

But, like you, he has told me things were done or completed, and it wasn't true. Perhaps the builders aren't being honest with him? No idea. I have learned from posts that he's not always one the factory floor.

Yeah, it does. This could actually be one of the shops that makes Squier. Who knows. Could just be a fake.

Well, Epiphone has some famous models still so I can get the point of it. Squiers on the other ends are somehow cheaper copies of fenders already haha

I have a Squier (guitar) which - to the best of my knowledge - has never been made by Fender. It's called a "Black 'N' Chrome". I have seen bootlegged instruments made to look like this.

It's, actually, a great looking guitar. Unfortunately, it would be best used as an oar until a lot of work is done to it.

Interesting, I never saw any fake Squires flooding the web but yeah, it is a possibility. But we'll, actually, judging by the amount of different guitar pieces that we can see among all the photos, it doesn't look like a small factory, they seem to mass build stuffs. So not impossible at all that they build in OEM for Squier, specially for the Affinity line, which is made in China
