Alibaba Bass

Looking back at the pics of the torn up fretboard, it doesn't seem like they lost any huge wood chips. A lot of the chips were probably sanded out when they leveled the board. Either way, I'm flabbergasted that it looks so good now.

I would definitely remind them to paint the headstock. I know how frustration, anxiety, and impatience can make someone say, 'No worries! Just let me do it,' in the moment, but you paid for that service.
Yeah, me too.

Well, it's pretty nice guys. I'm kind of amazedView attachment 5027785

I can live with one block off. I'm impressed. They pulled it off.

I just looked the previous photo again because I was as well impressed. It is difficult to say because the quality of the previous photos are a bit low, but the glue of the inlays was a bit everywhere. Maybe what we though to actually be chips from the wood that was gone was actually some glue residue or stuffs like that ? Because in fact, it looks impressively good ! Without having the previous photos, it is actually quite impossible from this one to say that it had been unfretted.

very clean after the refin. the grain is very appealing as well.

your pictures are making me wish I had done black binding. i also wish I would have done a 3-5 piece neck. perhaps I'll have them make me a spare neck in the future as well....

I should be able to give a feedback on that very soon when my neck will be finished, I didn't hear back from them yet for the delivery, I am not in a urge as it is a second neck and that I have a functional one on the bass currently haha.

Actually, after the months of reflexion since I decided to order the second neck, same as you I regret to not have asked the laminate + ask it in 3 pieces of Wenger separated by two pieces of maple. A while back (like 15 years ago, time flies :dead:), I used to own a B4 with a wenge neck the touch of it is actually nicer than varnished maple to me.
It would had looked gorgeous mixed with the maple fretboard. No idea why I didn't think about it but wekl, too late and I won't order a third neck :roflmao:

Okay, so It's been a good little while. But, he says the hardware will be installed tomorrow. So, it's finally coming to a close. I'm doubting the "tomorrow" part, but I'm thinking it'll be shipping out sometime in a week or so. My pickups are on their way now too, so...I should be playing my bass in somewhere around a month or so.

Well, if they really finishing the installation of the hardware tomorrow (which is not the most time consuming task), it's possible that it will fly soon. On my case, as soon as the bass was finished, I got the final photos and it did fly the next day !

Okay, so while installing the neck and hardware, they noticed that the neck route was a little longer then they meant to make it. They probably routed it for 24 frets instead of the 20 that I had them make me.

So...after all the defret, route, inlay, and refret, they are now making me a new neck anyways. Hahaha.

Oh well. They're just gonna have the heel come past the fret board a little to make up for it. Hopefully, they dye it purple. Or black. I'd be cool with either.

That's a pretty wild turn of events. I guess it means you can really drive the point about getting the inlays right this time.

I asked. He said he wasn't sure if they had done the inlays yet. I said if they did block it already, then no big deal. But, if they haven't done the inlays yet, I would appreciate if they were fins.

Still not playing that bass mate ?
Still ain't done with it dude. He told me on the 6th, that the new neck is done, and it will be assembled and shipped the following week.

Hasn't responded since. And, I've sent a few messages. I'm thinking, they hit another snag and he's waiting to say anything til it's all good.

So weird, I don't understand why it's taking so long considering that the body is ready. He had the time to make my second neck and deliver it already while he did start it while your project was almost already a wrap !

Yeah. Me neither man. I just want my bass. But, I want it to be playable too, so whatever happened, I want it right. Know what I mean?

Definitely sure that it will be. My build was great, Scuzzy's build was amazing, the second neck received was amazing and I saw some people dropping reviews on the product page that are 5 stars with photos of their build. Everyone got gemmes, there is no reason for you to not (plus existing photos show extremely promising stuffs !)
Plus, now I been able to talk quite often to Jacky through the 2 builds (bass+ second neck that I had), he always made sure that what was received was satisfying quality wise. So I have no doubt about it, it is just extremely long for yours unfortunately :/
Damned inlay mistake. But correct me if I am wrong, this was solved so the only steps left were refretting + neck finish and assembly right ?

I know that you don't wanna be pushy, but it beens months. If I were you, I would bomb Jacky with messages til I get an answer. Other builds are going on on the meanwhile, yours is not just on the priority list. Bug him a bit to make it up on the priority list, I am sure that it won't impact the quality. It doesn't take months to do what is left on your bass, it is just sleeping in the warehouse and apparently got a bit forgotten about I believe.

No. They made the neck pocket too long, so the scale ended up too short. They had to remake the neck, with the heel poking past the finger board, to make up for lost length. Then, match that to the body. It was a fairly major mistake. I think they cut the pocket for a 24 fret neck. But, I just wanted a regular 20. So they made me a standard p bass neck, and it wasn't long enough for the body route.

But when he got back to me about the inlays on this one, he said they had already laid blocks in it. So, no fins on the remake either. Which is stupid. But, I haven't received one picture since any of this. And the only response from him was that they were assembling my bass my bass 3 weeks ago.

I asked for a few pictures before they pack and ship it. Nothing yet.

Aaaah mate, sorry to hear that, they did cumulate the mistakes in your build :/

As long as it get sorted out at the end, at least, it's fine. The good news is that, even though the neck was looking totally fine after the corrections of the inlay, in real it could had still shown some marks and scars from the move. A total new neck is at least correcting that. Bug him with some messages, I talked with him by messages 2 days ago so he should be around to answer hahaha. To be noted, the end of the process of my neck was a bit long as well, it took 2 weeks more when the neck was nearly ready to go. Hopefully these 3 weeks are the end of the line and you get some good news this week !

By the way, if I were you, I would ask them if they can had the second neck in the package. They won't do anything with it anyway and who knows, if you do a build yourself one day, that's nice to have an extra neck available around ! The measurements are wrong, but it is still a good looking neck.

You know, that's a pretty good idea

The neck pocket elongation isn't perfect. But, I'm glad they decided to use it as the truss adjuster. It gives it purpose. They really should've just added more dang frets. But, whatever. Bass was 400 bucks, and it still looks alright. I bet I can sand that out and darken it myself.

Anyway, it on its way...finally. everything else looks great.
