All-New Ampeg SCR-DI!

It ain't the speaker sim making the VT clanky
Personally, while there is potential for clank, I don't get a clanky sound out of the VT. And I don't get one out of the Scr-DI, either.
So I ran my SCR-DI through the "power amp in" on my PF500. I wasn't able to spend much time with it but after tweaking the knobs a bit my first impressions are good. If there was one thing that I would like to have seen different it would have been the addition of a mid frequency selector knob similar to the one on the PF500. It would be nice to have the ability to move to another frequency outside of 500 hz. I play fingerstyle and the Scrambler worked great for adding a touch of dirt. Gonna have to take it into "Blow Your Face Off" territory as well. Looking forward to spending more time with it this evening and running it with my Bearfoot Blueberry and EWS Mid Control pedal. Marko's right these things are heavier than I would have thought which is fine by me.
Unfortunately I don't have a VT to make a comparison to. Looking forward to hearing that comparison as well from somebody who does.

I already have made the comparo...you trade a measure of versatility in the VT for much higher ease of use in the SCR-DI, but the tones are comparable IMHO.
How about drive/dirt? I really like putting my VT in slight breakup.
So far I'm happy with my VT DI, but I really love that SCR has AUX for practicing and is was less touch sensitive than VT. I pretty much have just one tone all the time so versatility is not critical.
I spent about an hour with this last night. It's perfect for what I was looking for (light OD) and perfect for what I wasn't looking but am glad I found (practice rig)
I liked it from the little bit of time that I've spent with it so far. It's a different flavor OD than say my Blueberry OD pedal so now I have two OD options to choose from.

after reading all these interesting posts about this what seems to be a very amazing pedal, I have a question for those who have tested them.
Are there tonal differences between that pedal and the ampeg preamps as the one in the PF350 for example ? I mean, the drive sounds different or is it just that there's a blend option that gives more options ?
I already own a VT Bass which I love (I use it with gain at noon), and many SS ampeg amps users seem to prefer them with a VT to create some drive. So I'm wondering if the drive section of the SCR-DI would be as interesting as the VT one.
I like the many options of SCR-DI for sure !!

My 8th grade daughter had her first bass lesson at school today--- I can totally see her practicing in her room with headphones and battery power...Can't wait to show her how to use this feature...
I know you mentioned the PF350 but the tonal difference that I noticed between my PF500 and my SCR-DI is minimal. The mid frequencies are a shade different on the PF500 also with the ability to choose between various ones the closest being 450 hz. My PF500 doesn't have OD just a gain knob so I'm liking the built-in Scrambler for dirt.
My mistake, I was talking about the gain of amps such as the PF500 you mention. So the scrambler is different than this kind of gain ?

did a comparison between the SCR DI and the VT v2 last night. i noticed the SCR was "pointier" if that makes sense. The VT had a lot more weight to the notes. It also sat wider in the mix. The SCR did have a nice brightness but i felt like it was just skinnier sounding than the VT. i love the all the cool practice features of the SCR but if i were to pick one just based on sound as a preamp i would stick with the VT. I think I might keep mine anyway though. Both great just different flavors.
