I've played on the back of an old ford truck, the back of a semi-trailer, a beach, a lawn bowls green, the roof of a pub, a carpet in the middle of a playground for a school fete, in a backyard, in a railway museum...

Early signs of the Black Plague. He'll be dead in a fortnight unless you can apply a poultice of elderbane, butter, garlic and newt's eyes. It helps with the demon exercisms.

Played in a small silo with no roof. Great acoustics, but not a lot of room. So they put a video camera in the silo and project it out on a big screen.

Gay bars. Lots of gay bars. Some lesbian bars, but mostly just gay bars.

I played on the steps of California's Capitol Building.

I played at old folk's homes every now and then. Oldie standards, mostly jazz.

I also played one gig at a condemned building where people were actively tearing up the walls while we were playing.

Playing at Moose Lodges, Elk's Lodges, Rotary Clubs, etc., are weird as all get out when you're 19 years old. They're not so much anymore. The music that they want to hear is getting closer to the music that I learned growing up! Egads... However, they always pay up front and they feed us great!

I can add a couple.

I have played in a wrestling rink. Yep. True story. the drums and amps were set up just outside the rink on a rolling platform. They would have a match and we would play in between. All of us except the drummer were inside the dang thing. It was the most ridiculous night of my life.

I have also played on top of a hot tub in a hotel indoor pool area. They put several layers of plywood over it and the whole band stood up there. We were all pretty worried the whole night. It held up though.

Did several acoustic gigs with my old band in the Children's ward at our local hospital. We'd do a set in their main play room and then go into the rooms of the kid's who were too sick to get out of bed.

Some of the most rewarding & depressing work I've ever been involved in.

Nice. I once did an all ages gig in an indoor skate park if that counts. The drums were setup at the bottom of the half pipe and we played in front of it though.

Played a dress up corporate function at Fremantle Prison once, way after they kept people incarcerated there. Place still felt like a prison though.

I think playing on a flatbed is a rite of passage. Most guys I know have done it

PS - My fave "non stage" setting I've seen was Mudvayne playing on top of a skyscraper. That would be wild, and since I don't like heights, a little scary
