All things Canadian for Basses?

Congratulations! I don't think I have any Canadian-made musical instruments, but have played a couple Seagull and Larrivee acoustics I quite liked.

But my home stereo is powered by a Canadian-made Bryston 2B-LP amp! And I have a pair of early, Canadian-made PSB Alpha speakers connected to my digital piano. I also have a pair of Paradigm 5SE speakers in the basement (one of the woofer surrounds needs redone).

I don't think I can find any Canadian ancestors, but perhaps being born on Canada Day will help. Okay, it won't, but I can dream.

For other Canadian musicians, jazz pianist Renee Rosnes! I first saw her perform live with Joe Henderson in the 1980s. It's too bad he never made an album with that group. (Kim Clarke was on bass and Sylvia Cuenca on drums).
I love my PSB X2T tower speakers.

For canadian music, I'd recommend checking out the following off the top of my head:
- Rush (obviously)
- Barenaked Ladies
- Our Lady Peace
- The Tea Party
- Alanis Morissette
- The Tragically Hip
- The Band
- Sloane
- The Guess Who
- BTO

Oh, I got tired!!

I'm American but have always been fond of Canada. I've visited various parts of Ontario and the Maritime Provinces and loved everywhere I went.

In the early 70s I played through a Traynor YBA3 and 810 cabinet and it sounded incredible. Then the "opinion leaders" in my area all started using SVTs so I followed the herd and regretted it ever since.

I don't think anyone has mentioned Gino Vannelli, a very unique voice and style.
OMG! How could I forget:

Gino Vanelli,
Payola$ (Rock & Hyde)
Trooper

From Winnipeg we have REVV amps and historically we had Garnet amps and Johnson amps from Brandon Manitoba.

Should also include a favourite, the Tea Party from Windsor Ontario.

I'd like to also include Jet Set Satellite from Winnipeg as well

Was fortunate enough to share a stage with them a few times, what an exceptional group of humans.

Outside of one shout out to Metric and my call out to Do Make Say Think, I feel like the Broken Social Scene cinematic universe has been sorely underrepresented here, to say nothing of their west coast counterparts, New Pornographers.
Speaking of Broken Social Scene, Feist’s first album (Let It Die) was excellent.

If we're going to name Canadian bands, you're just getting started. A few more:

Bachman Turner Overdrive
Toronto
Rough Trade
Headpins
Billy Talent
Lee Aaron
Kim Mitchell
Rush
Arcade Fire
Trooper
Nickleback
April Wine
Sum 41
Blink 182
The Tragically Hip
Harlequin
The Guess Who
Glass Tiger
Platinum Blonde
Joni Mitchell
Honeymoon Suite

....... yeah that's off the top of my head, I won't try to remember them all. Canada's got an excellent history of great music.
Blink 182 are American (Poway California). Though my drummer has a tribute band to them called Drink-182, based here in Montreal, Qc.

Harmonium. Check out the album L'heptade. For other French-Canadian content:

Daniel Belanger
Jean Leloup
Les Colocs

I'll raise Les Cowboys Fringants!

Montreal's The Gruesomes

I used to work with Bobby (Guitars/Vocals) at the old Steve's Music store in Montreal, down on what was known as Clark street (when i worked there it was Saint-Antoine). Funny & great person all around!
