All things Canadian for Basses?

Gonna have to double check your geography here. If "Halifax has the same climate as Boston" then Boston has the same climate as Washington DC, which it's about equidistant from.

But that's not how it works. Halifax averages around 10 degrees F colder each month than Boston.

Halifax isn't quite Wisconsin-esque, but it's closer to that than it is Boston.
Lol no I’ve been to all three and have friends in Wisconsin and Boston. Halifax is very similar to Boston. Different, sure, but both are incredibly different from landlocked Wisconsin. Inland cities have colder winters and hotter summers than coastal cities, especially if said inland city typically is in the way of the polar vortex for a week or so.

We typically experience the exact same weather patterns as Boston, normally a day later. I didn’t say we have the exact same climate though. There is a difference. But it’s basically the same, especially compared to Madison.

Both Halifax and Boston see more snow than Madison - Halifax gets about 5-10” more per year than Boston. That’s like one or two additional snow days.

I don’t know the old fashioned temperature metrics very well, but there’s about an annual average of 5 degrees Celsius difference between Boston and Halifax, and both cities can experience that same temperature swing between sunrise and lunchtime on any given day during the spring or fall. It’s not real significant - if it’s hot there today, it’s hot here tomorrow, and if it’s cold there today, it’s cold here tomorrow. 5 degrees difference when it’s 25-30 degrees Celsius out isn’t much. It’s hot. 5 degrees difference when it’s at the freezing point can be the difference between stepping outside in a sports jacket for a quick walk down the block or bundling up in a parka and a toque, depending on the wind.

Climate encompasses all of those things. Seasonal average temperatures and humidity, snowfall, rainfall, wind.

I’ve visited Linda’s shop. She’s phenomenal. Grit Laskin is another great builder.
If you are mentioning Laskin and Manzer, you can't leave out Sergei de Jonge and his daughter both of whom are in the same echelon.
Laskin's inlay work is amazing.

Anyway, all these guys trace their lineage back to Larrivè.

Yes I know Joshia, very nice person and great builder. Dad too of course. My best friend took Sergei’s guitar building course close to twenty years ago.

Congratulations! and bravo to the warm welcome from the Canadian commenters on the first page! (I’m catching up, and hope that continues.)

It seems that as of the end of last year, those of us with ancestors born in Canada can claim citizenship. While I imagine it still takes a lot of leg work, I want to at least claim citizenship and look into relocating.

It has been a while, but Thunder Bay made a very good impression … a few years ago 😏
My wife did this. Her dad was born in Canada, and yes, it does take a lot of legwork (and waiting). We lived in Montreal from 2018-2019 and planned on staying, but we moved back to the US due to circumstances beyond our control. We may move back one day, but no plans right now.

Thunder Bay is a nice town (five hours east of me) and it's the nearest Dim Sum in the region! (albeit just one place, and only on weekends)
But they get the same horrific -40 winters that we do, and with even more Ice Rain...

Yes, and I’m wed to a woman born and raised on the island of Maui 🏝️ she did at least go to college on the US side of Lake Erie, and has visited my native Wisconsin in winter, so she has at least had a taste. She did ask what I thought of BC the other night 😆 I can’t say I really miss the winters of my youth in the Great Lakes region 🥶 but I also can’t say I would miss the summers of my adulthood in the West 🔥

You missed my wife's favourite: Doug And The Slugs.

Ignorance is curable and the brain does its best to heal itself.. Such a slow process!

I missed Glass Tiger and Saga, too. So, I guess this is the first sign of my impending decline, since Saga is a favourite.
The bass line to 'Wind him up' is so cool.

Wow, I appreciated all the band suggestions! So many I had forgotten about. Fun.

Seconding Death From Above, and NoMeansNo a hundred times.

I didn't yet see Lowest of the Low, and especially Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet.

If you ever find a headless bass from the Amazing company, they are great. I regret giving up mine. Sadly a completely ungoogleable company name.

I love love love my Traynor YBA-1, I'll never play another amp.
