Totally bummerYeah that would be a bummer
Look up Opposed Action Initiative, he makes them!Haha just noticed, what look like, d10’s (?). Awesome!
Looks like a GREAT pair. I feel you on the tuning key swap, though I’d probably keep them black if the body were clear anodized. Good call on the slightly heavier strings as well. These necks seem to thrive with heavier tensions. After Spending a week with them, here are my thoughts:
They are heavy, but not unbearably so.
I want to switch out the tuners on the bass, the black ones don't match the rest of the hardware, if the Bridge, strap buttons and p/u covers were black I'd be into it but the mismatch bugs me. I'm checking to see what they used so I can make the switch to some chrome ones. They are some model of Schaller instead of the Gotoh ones i was invoiced with. the mounting point and screw location appears to be the same though.
the action is a little lower than i was anticipating (this is a good thing) so I need thicker strings on the bass, a 105 on the E is fine but 45-85 on the others is a touch too light and I'm getting a little more buzz than usual. I will try a 50-105 set.
Tonally I'm super happy, push pulls on the tone knobs for coil tapping offer a lot of variety. I've been able to get passable Jazz and P-bass inspired sounds with an aluminum twist.
TLDR: I'm a happy camper with one cosmetic nitpick.
It’s in good hands with Dave! Finally I have my DMZ 6000B, it has been on my mind and bucket list for 40 years.View attachment 4018224
Player her again last night .. It is a monster in every way .. slaps and pops like a champ too. It’s in good hands with Dave!
I knew that it could, there’s a lot of 70’s and 80’s funk that this bass has the perfect sound for, stuff I cut my teeth on!Player her again last night .. It is a monster in every way .. slaps and pops like a champ too.
Yup great funker and it is totally the sound I knew it had, very different from all my others. I love the pre amp but many replace it with something more modern, no way for me it rocks. Vintage Di Marzio's sound great.I knew that it could, there’s a lot of 70’s and 80’s funk that this bass has the perfect sound for, stuff I cut my teeth on!
+1 on the vintage DiMarzios— I’m saving a set of old PAF Model P’s for my aluminum necked Precision build.Yup great funker and it is totally the sound I knew it had, very different from all my others.
