Question for the crew on my project.
I’ve kind of hit a brick wall with trying to decide the electronics for my 1pc Black Limba P w/ music man sweet spot.
Originally as a concept this body was going to get a wenge/ wenge neck then shifted to not being able to decide if you Alder/ Koa Jazz or this would get either a Status or an Aluminati hollow core. Both P bass profiles. I can’t help but want the aluminum on the “stingrayesque” body since I have a Modulus Q5 with the sweet spot, the Jazz gets the Status (kind of my nod to Darryl Jenifer of Bad Brains and his Modulus Basstar… I actually have a green Jazz body I wanted to put the Status on).
It’s been a journey and decisions.
This leads me to the electronics on this new build.
I was thinking a Nordstrand Big Splitman, being in the sweet spot position, I feel perhaps a bit of wool, the authority and the ability to run parallel, series and also the ability to split the front or back could prove versatile. I think a passive options would be nice as well.
Keeping in the Nordstrand camp, the Big Blademan is alluring. A strong pickup with great tone.
LeCompte Triple Threat. Would love to support Bud and they seem to sound quite nice.
The allure of a multi-coil / filter based pre set up is tempting but I wonder if some of what I want about the aluminum will be lost. The Turner Multi coil with the Lusithand pre. Then I also think maybe a different build and make it a 2x pickup bass with the double NFP pre…. Thoughts? I’m genuinely leaning towards it own build…. I will say the @LowEndLobster review of the Turner Multicoil sounded amazing.
With that same review, I found I genuinely love the tone of Novak BS/ DS at the sweet spot position.
As you can see… I’m all over the place.
Leaving heavy toward the Big Split Man.
