Am I crazy not to like Ampeg??

ampeg, eden,genz benz, polytone,acoustic image, walter woods, gk, markbass, hartke, peavey, kustom, acoustic, randall, fender, swr....... they say bass right?
i played em all, liked em all, bought something else........ its fun, its bass......enjoy

So you don't like them. No biggie. Hell I fall into an even smaller category. I love my NEWER SVT6Pro. I can get just about ANY tone with it. Nobody likes new Ampeg stuff. (Of course most Ampeg people won't give it a chance because it's not MIA any more, but whatever) So maybe I'm more crazy than you????? :eek:

The point is, vintage Ampeg people have their thing. I have mine. You have yours. Now go play and be happy.

Yes, I like Chunky Monkey too.

Anyway, ditto to what the Ampeg lovers say. The B2RE/SVT 450H are eh. The SVT Pro hybrids are really good but I could see where someone would like something else better (I do). Their combos are excellent for the money, if a little heavy. The current cabs aren't my thing, but a lot of people seem to like them. But for me, the tube heads are classic. Every one of them I've played that works has been superb. LOUD had a period where they let a lot of bad amps and poor designs get through, but they seem to be pulling out of it, and the amps they make now are superb. An SVT tuber = :hyper: .

But that's me, and I'm not everyone, and really, nobody cares what you play but you and the people you work with, so have fun and don't worry about it.

I wouldn’t say crazy..
Ampeg tube amps are my sound and the sound I hear in my head.
I’ve played Aguilar, Eden, GK etc and while very good sounding, they don’t have “my sound”. It doesn’t mean they are bad or that I’m uninformed.

Play what has the sound you hear in your head (ignore the voices).
If you’re happy with the sound, you will play better and be happier doing it.

I love my own Ampeg systems, but I would never tell anyone that they should use what I have. There are a ton of systems out there, for varying amounts of cash, you have to get what makes your ears happy. Everyone has their version of the perfect tone, it would be non productive for me to start bashing other brands of bass gear.

Also, your ears will change, your musical tastes will change, you may end up liking Ampeg stuff after a while, or you may get into GK's gear (great stuff as well). I think there are a lot of gear that has a lot to offer for the conditions that bass players set for themselves, it will take time to find what turns your crank. Ampeg's just been around for a long time, and is well hyped, and for good reason, but one man's gold is another man's garbage, so to speak. :)

my SVT 350= quiet, no real vibe, very plain vanilla, booty.

my old svt 2 pro would have ate your face for saying that.
when i bought it the tagline at the store was "this s what you play when you really mean it" never has a more true statement been spoken..im in withdrawls i miss it so

To tide you over, get a Sansamp VT Bass pedal. For $150, it's the next best thing to having an SVT tuber. Greatly improves the sound of the SVT 350. And then sell the 350 and buy another tuber...there's plenty of them out there!

We each have our own shimmering mirage of tonal goals to pursue.

But please don't write off Ampeg until after you've played a rig like this in a band setting.

It kills. Period.
