So I'm playing in an an old-school, 7-piece soul/r&b band for my main gig right now, which is 98% covers. The band is strictly a no-nonsense, business, for-profit, party band. We're just 7 guys that get a really good time out of playing music to entertain people, and make some cash on the side. Typically we do weddings, parties, events, and some bar gigs. I would say that we're a really professional band, and we don't take gigs that aren't worth it either money-wise, or cause-wise.

My comment has nothing to do with this thread, it does have to do with the type of band the OP is in.

Music hits us as individual differently. The OP actually defines exactly the type of band I could never be a part of.

This sounds more like business than music .

Am I the only on with this perspective?

If you really like playing together and the music, then the coin shouldn't be as much of a concern as you are making it.

You said it yourself, the leader basically does EVERYTHING and gets you the big paying gigs, that being parties and weddings. Now I hear you moaning because the coin isn't as big as the others.

You are NOT in this for the music, you are in this for the money. Wanna be pissed? Go ahead. Want to continue to get the gigs with coin? SUCK IT UP!

You will probably actually enjoy this gig more, as you can be a little free and also there will be people there to actually hear you, not a captive wedding audience.

Based on the kind of gigs you normally play, do you actually think anyone comes to hear you or the band? Most of your gigs are background music, musical wallpaper.

This is a gig where people will actually come to hear YOU guys play. To me that's great.
