That's the deal here too. I frankly don't see the value in a cover band doing an open mic where they have to set everybody up to play three songs.
This is probably why most of the open mic hosts around here don't facilitate a full band. There are several hosts in this town who go around to various venues with their PA and do the open mic thing. None would accommodate someone who wanted to bring a full drum kit. Some roll their eyes at the idea of plugging a bass in via a DI because it's so seldom done. Most of what you see are acoustic and electric guitars, maybe a singing keyboard player doing solo stuff, and maybe someone comes in with a cajon now and then.
I tend to think of an open mic as one step up from a few folks pulling out guitars around a campfire to sing songs they know for fun and amusement. It's that sort of thing, except there's no fire and you get to be in a pub.
