Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

Testing out my new rack arrangement. Almost immediately feeling like I overshot the mark with my Erica Black going on the top row. Guess it’s going to the middle next :-/
I got a couple used modules locally today so I did some re-arranging as well. This is where I'm currently at:

Droney Hawk (complete) (as-is)

Top two rows are a Rackbrute 6u, bottom row is a Rackbrute 3u. I don't actually have the Panmix and C4RBN in hand yet...they're en route.

I have no idea if this will work on a Mac but if it does I'd highly recommend giving it a try: GitHub - DISTRHO/Cardinal: Virtual modular synthesizer plugin
Computer, I use a PC but I can’t do the “create on a computer” thing.

DAW is only for recording, mixing and basement lab mastering.
I go brain dead (even more so) ……

The app is on iPad, even then it’s pushing it.
I need real crap in front of me. I’ll take my SP and a contact mic over a VST any day of the week for creating.

my 2 cents

Must be something in the air -- I rearranged my rack today too. It's *almost* grouped by manufacturer, except that Planar and Shapeshifter are separate. I just ordered the black panel for Planar this morning.

For iPad and modular weirdness, you could try Drambo. The first time I used it, I hated it. Now I like it.

ok, now i’m looking at the miRack app on the ios store.

anyone here try it out?
It is a fork off of VCV Rack, so there is a lot of stuff in there.

I just haven't used it a ton because I moved away from iOS mostly due to ridiculousness (like Devs questioning my requests for tempo changes when I was a beta tester like tempo changes in a song is some kind of fringe thing)

But I ran it through its paces and didnt have any troubles with it in particular.

Is that the NSI Inertia in the lower left corner? If so what do you think of it?

Yep, it is.

To be honest, I have mixed feelings.

For envelopes/LFOs the interface feels kind of weird. Rise/fall action is backwards (clockwise = faster). In "blue" mode it acts more like Tides or Just Friends which is more familiar to me. In both modes, the momentum is a bit unintuitive and I usually have to put it on the scope to dial it in. BeetTweek's spring mode, I'm finding, is better at the bouncy wobbly thing (but then it costs more).

As an oscillator it's more straightforward, not super exciting although with modulation you can get it to reach some sounds Just Friends won't.

As a filter though, it's extremely cool and unique, and is what really justifies the module for me. Otherwise I'd probably swap it out for a Function or Contour 1, or also sell the Tilt and go back to Maths.

(Tilt is also a mixed bag. Excellent envelope shapes and handy functionality in general, but I'd prefer bigger knobs and more wiggle room. The rise/fall gate outputs are fundamentally broken but do make an interesting noise source.)
