Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

As far as buyers being jerks, maybe it's just because prices are up everywhere for everything and buyers tend to take it out on sellers because, well, who else can you yell at directly?

I bet this is it. Income isn’t keeping up with inflation and people have recent memories of being able to afford a lot more. Plus shortages.

I’ve only had one directly aggressive message but people are, um, not friendly like they were quite recently.

mostly i get low-ballers and people asking me to name “my lowest price.”

the last time i had a belligerent wannabe buyer was a a number of years ago. he was pissed that i didn’t want to drive 30 miles to sell my item at a deep discount. (i wasn’t “serious” about selling.)
Last idiot was a seller.
He was selling a batch of used books I was interested in but with no price in the add.
Asked the price and informed me that the prices where same as in the stores since it was easier to buy a lot from him than to go around stores to find them all.

yeah, what’s the opposite of genius again??

An ingenious strategy wherein the seller is asked to negotiate with themselves.

I always counter "what's your best offer?"

I'm not mad at low ballers. I just say no.

totally.

i just don't answer at that point cause i know they're just wasting my time (especially after ridiculous lowball "offers").

When is your Canadian tour?

dude. it was hard enough for me to get out of the state. someday? iirc, the u.s./canada broder thing for musicians is stupid in the extreme, so it make it less likely.

I had a Squier Bass VI and a Music Man Silhouette. What do you want to know? At the time I wanted them to fulfill the bass role so baritone wasn’t a consideration.

I was curious about what you expected them to do versus how they worked for that purpose. Were you satisfied with the sounds you got? Were there any quirks you disliked or features you found particularly useful? With the bass vi did you find you could play melody lines and/or dyads higher up the neck?

I became obsessed with the Bass VI around 2002, when there wasn't a version readily available. I actually put my name in for one of the Fender USA reissues that was planned a couple of years later, but never ended up getting it. I lived in Japan from 2002-2006 and they put out the Jaguar Bottom Master which was renamed something else in the US - I liked it a lot, but it was only about 28" scale, so the low E really didn't work too well. I wanted something I could play both in the standard bass register and higher - this is something I came up with then:

Then when I returned to the US, I ended up trading an Alembic SF-2 for a mid-90s Fender Japan reissue Bass VI, which I still have. My problem with that is the vibrato tailpiece thing - it doesn't stay in place and I haven't been able to get the "lock" to lock. It currently resides in its case - I need to get the bridge sorted out so that I can play it more. I would still want to be able to play regular bass on it, as well as do upper register stuff. One of my Bass VI idols is Rob Babbington of middle & late period Soft Machine - he plays it with his fingers and it sounds like a bass - pick works much more easily, but I was able to play it with my fingers to a certain degree. Here's a trailer for a wonderful live Soft Machine CD/DVD:

I ended up selling my Bottom Master to one of the members of Midas Fall. Never heard back whether she ended up using it or not.
