Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

I remember when the whole retro 80s "wave" thing got big around 8-10 years ago with vaporwave and so on, I was telling my much younger bandmates that back in the 80s we didn't really have music like vaporwave. Vaporwave is a sort of false memory of the 80s in that sense, but all these "wave" subgenres are informed by 80s synth pop. I also told them that of all the music I heard growing up, the closest thing we had to actual vaporwave in the 80s was the Genesis self-titled album, which includes the song Mama. Specifically, I was thinking of It's Gonna Get Better:



While I am not a big fan of 80s pop Genesis, I have a soft spot for this album, almost every song is good, except for Illegal Alien, which sounds like a joke song and doesn't fit in with the rest.

I really loved Home By the Sea Parts 1 and 2. It's sort of "prog pop".

Illegal Alien is pretty cringeworthy for tons of reasons. This was actually my first Genesis album. I was 12 and didn't even know prog existed. There are some good ones on there, Mama and the Home By the Seas are good. Just a Job to Do is pretty good, Phil's vox are great on it.

Got mixed feelings about the whole synthwave/vaporwave thing. I don't exactly have a lot of nostalgia for that era, and I'm not a fan of early digital synths. I do kinda think it's cool how they can use that aesthetic in creative ways.

But CHIPTUNE... don't even get me started on that.

Sound manipulating samples today for a band that’s in the studio THIS WEEKEND!!!!! They’re in Montreal with a « big name » engineer/producer.
I got the tracks yesterday, they have to be done by tomorrow preferably.
He apparently is a « no effin around dude ».

Since it’s for close acquaintances, of course I do this for free and to get some exposure.
Lucky for me I’ll get my name in the albums credits, maybe I’ll get some more volunteer work to do after that!!!!

Was pouring over different gear options the past couple days for some projects I’d like to get around to. YouTube vids, online reviews, manuals. Was actually kind of stressing myself out over it. In Tulsa at the moment. Found a really nice western store, got a new hat cut and shaped instead of new gear. Feeling good about it :)

Not the same, but I just went out and bought some books, my wife saw me pissed at the project Im doing so she gave her gift card she got from last Xmas and said "Get some air and a few books.....NOW!!!...."
She's the best.

Microcosm update... so as I previously mentioned I like this thing but it's definitely a tweak-in-real-time kinda pedal and that's a real pain on the floorboard, so I'm finally putting together a synth pedalboard, and will have the patchbay so I can use it on any. So far it's not much, just a Microcosm, a Boss DD and the Eventide Blackhole. Probably all I need for the kinda stuff I do.

Sometimes that’s the right move. I just spent some money upgrading the stock car stereo from 2012 in advance of a road trip. Nothing audiophile (it’s a car) but better than what we had.
