I can’t answer for this video. But yes, there’s 4-stringed instrument called the Tanpura that people theoretically play live. Except they also make a box that does it automatically, and lots of Indian musicians apparently use those for convenience. Tanpura Shruthi Box

She actually responded to my message, but only with "It's a tanpura." I really want to know if someone is playing along, or if she pre-recorded it, or if it's electronic. But I'm going to leave her alone. She actually has a lot of recordings out there, the Bandcamp one makes it seem like it's her only one, but I guess the claim is the first time on vinyl. Another aspect of her bio is that she records at home with her own setup - in one video there is a Zoom H6 in the shot.

I am definitely into shruti boxes! I've never heard a tanpura one though. I would love to try a real tanpura actually. It's almost like bass in a way, in the sense of bass often playing a supporting role - the tanpura is mainly harmony, though I wonder to what extent the rhythm of it plays a part in the music?

I think I first got turned onto the shruti box by a CD I found by Makoto Kawabata of Acid Mothers Temple over 20 years ago. It was just a 40 minute drone! I think I discovered Taj Mahal Travellers soon after that.

I was hoping to do a shorter jam for a test, but I found myself tweaking things and it became what it did. I think this gives you a sense of the range the Stereo Delay and Reverb have when paired.
Simple sequence into the delay and reverb modules. You'll hear them fade in and do what they do.

Geddy Lee counts for this thread, right? I am a huge fan, for the bass playing, the synths, the songs, the vocals even! So I had to see him on the My Effin' Life tour in San Francisco!

These weren't my actual seats - my actual view was obscured by a big guy in front of me (despite my best efforts to get "good" seats) - but it was totally worth it. I was there when Matt Cameron interview him - could there be a musical collaboration on the horizon?!! I hope so - Geddy, let loose your bass-jam-out/synth-background-enhancement dreams!

From what I understand the tambura is often played during live performance by the headlining sitarist’s student.

She's interviewed in the 2009 docu "Beyond the Lighted Stage". Like any good mom, she was upset that Geddy decided to become a rock musician but once he achieved success she was okay with it, almost lol.
