hope everyone's staying safe and sane during these trying times.

Some companies have stepped up to help keep people occupied while they quarantine, so I thought I'd help share those. I shared some free samples back on pg 251, here are some more free resources:

thanks. i like morton. cage is not always so interesting to me. very hit or miss for my taste. now if you wanna talk george crumb . . .

Please inquire about Mr Crumb. In do not know anything about him. Album suggestion?

Y’a cage for me is mostly miss, but what i do like I find simply awesome. Morton also, I really like his piano works like Triadic Memories.

IMO with such experimental artists that is bound to happen. The where very prolific and not everything is gonna click with you.

whether you like this or not maybe depend on how you feel about vocalists in contemporary "classical" music. it's one of his more famous pieces.

he's well known for expanding extended technique for instruments, particularyl his use of percussion.

right?! I just use SoundCloud as a placeholder. Easy to upload and share to friends, but many use it as a promotional tool or makeshift record label. Every time I post anything there several ‘music promoters’ show up to praise the clip and offer their promotion services. Funnier still, these posts come within 10-30 seconds of me posting a 4 minute clip :)

I get that too. Soundcloud is infested with bots and scammers. Go to the bot's homepage and you'll see they have no uploads but repost lots of other people's tracks, and the profile picture is always some pretty young girl. :rollno:

MY favorite is when I put up a long ambient track with no percussion sounds and get an "I dig your sick beats!" message.

yeah, but pierrot is sprechstimme (spoken singing), not bel canto (beautiful song), so quite different. that being said, these pieces are probably somewhere in between.

fwiw, crumb has a whole set of his crazy orchestrations of folk tunes (american song book). i basically like them, but his daughter, who is a broadway singer, is the featured vocalist and i can’t stand how she sings them. still, the orchestrations are insane (think creepy, misty west virginia valleys).

I’ve got an embarrassment of riches going on.
I’ve got one laptop open to various manuals while another is open with an Ableton session. The Ableton is sending drums to my mixer, while another sequenced clip is driving my Nyx. The Nyx is going through an Empress Echo with a time sync to the beat. All that runs through an Empress Reverb aux send.

Nothing awesome yet, but lots of fun.

One of the things to bear in mind about "experimental" composers such as Cage is that there is often so much freedom [sic] in the parts that different ensembles can produce dramatically different performances of the same piece. It takes a smart, sensitive, patient, and dedicated ensemble to find the music in some of these works...especially the works that present the performer(s) with a Situational Process Field that doesn't dictate exactly what notes or phrases or gestures are required at any given moment.

100% agreed.
Same goes for my favorite classical pieces.
Some orchestras/ensembles simply don't "get" or "achieve" what is magical about some compositions.

#1 example for me....Berlioz La symphonie fantastique.

Another thing that could be done is to collaborate on a recording - either one person make something and then the next people overdub, or each person do a shorter segment, next person overlap but go longer, next person go overlap over the second thing, etc. A long time ago there was a thread on TB and they called it the "Spittoon" - each person did a 4-8 bar sketch, there was no overlap, but I think overlap would be more interesting, if not an entire track. There have to be some rules - if one person calls a track, then everyone wait until they're finished. It requires that you work relatively quickly to keep the momentum going - we tried it on a different forum and it died with like the 2nd or 3rd person!

Havent checked this thread much lately. Today is day 12 for my family so there hasnt been much of any time for music. It's so weird how so many people are searching for things to do while stuck at home and others are on the total opposite side of the spectrum now trying to juggle a job, home schooling situation for kids, and keep a family of 4 supplied for the uncertain future w food and supplies. Crazy times indeed...but I digress (how couldnt I?)

Jamkazam & collab projects. IN!!!!!!

I love jamkazammin and would love to bug out and make live sounds w one or a few of you at a time (3 to 4 max depending per session).

Would also love to tracks and build music together. Hit me up if this interests you and if you want to schedule stuff or swap files. My sweet spot is like 10 or 11pm ET.

Ok back to catching up. Looking forward to hearing all the music posted!!!! Stay sane y'all...or make sure you are recording ;)
