Guess why all those "i want MY TONE live" threads make me laugh.
Jeez....on some gigs just hearing yourself is a luxury. Even in large to medium size venues.
Once your signal hits the foh, the dude doesn't care about you....he's busy making the band sound good.

i think some of it depends on band volume

re foh: sometimes those guys aren’t making anything sound good.

Agreed.
Acoustic jazz gig and large Stoner rock band .....clearly not the same situation.

Some FOH guys are pretty good.
Worked in sound reinforcement.....hated every second of it.....

When asked why the band sounded aweful:
We often said..."gabage in....garbage out."

I was on both sides, as a musician and as a sound man.
So.....these jokes can easily go both ways.

Mr Guitar player with wireless Line 6 that doesn’t move more the 1 foot away from his amp and picks up local radio station through his amp.......
Mr Bassplayer that slaps during sound check, but zero times during the set.
Mr drummer that plays at level 2 at sound check and 11 during set making everything peak with a 30 piece kit for a CCR cover band.
Mrs Singer that wants the CD mix in her 30$ Chinese in ears.
Mr rhythm guitar dude already drunk.

Band 2 hours late for sound checks, then complains we only do a line check just before the show.

Sorry, I have no sympathy.

Especially since the sound guys formed their own little whining lobby group on TB to stop us meanies from picking on them.

I've worked with good sound guys, but I've also worked with lazy ones who spent more time arguing with me than it would've taken to just work with me, even when I show up early, have all the stuff set up and all he has to do is plug in.

Some of my bandmates meet your description, however, but that's between you and them.

Not trying to be confrontational, but I think in a thread about ambient bass I don't feel like I need to apologize for the way my bass sounds. I mean, 95% of the time it's just a driven clanky Rickenbacker, and even that seems to be too much for some sound guys. You should see some of them roll their eyes when I use effects, if they had a light back there they'd be able to see their brains.

Sorry, not every band is trying to sound like Heart or Aerosmith or <insert 70s band name here>, especially not my band.
