Barre Philips scares me how good he is.
The album is NUTS!!!!! I still dont get how he can get his upright to fit in so well such a dense mix at times on that record.
two hydrasyths, using the 43-note partch scale, two times osc with fundamental, the other four scanning through upper partials. panning, fm against scanned static osc. changing lfo speeds and drive level as i'm going along

i’ve just learned that the great bassist gary peacock has died. i ran across this quote of his that i wanted to share with you all:
Miles probably said one of the most brilliant, useful, and necessary comments I've ever heard. Somebody was recording with him, and Miles looked at him and said, "What I want to hear is what you don't know." That is really the key: not playing what you know, playing what you don't know. To do that, you have to get very quiet inside, listen, and surrender to whatever that particular musical setting is. So it doesn't make any difference whether I'm playing standards or free stuff, because you're giving up any kind of fixed positions or attitudes you may have about what it should or shouldn't be. And to do that, you have to be vulnerable, to be in a place where you realize that what you're after, you cannot know. It's not conceivable. But it's there. It's the muse. So it's kind of a switch from the self playing the muse to the muse playing the self.

Life ends. It's part of life. However, Gary not being on this plane is difficult to accept. I suppose he has resonated enough strings for the resonance to continue for many, many years to come. That brings some comfort. What a giant. Deep thinker and player.
i’ve seen some confusion around whether or not peacock has died. i thought i had confirmed on wikipedia, but that has since changed. and apparently his longtime cohort jack dejohnette has posted it in twitter, but that has also been pulled. we’ll see.
