Right after I wrote that, I thought you'd think I meant you were implying that... I wasn't.

You mentioned feeling guilty... I do, sometimes, too, but I also try to give money to organizations that help people. I think where I really feel weird is with a lot of my peers. Some of them are struggling and barely getting by, and I'm always getting some new piece of gear.

I went through my spreadsheet list of gear that I keep for estimating my insurance coverage (in case of theft or fire). I added a column for who gets what if I get hit by a bus tomorrow.

Not an easy job, no doubt. As I wrote in another thread not too long ago:

Y'know, I *thought* I had this all worked out:
- my Steinberger L-2 and my Schecter Venus B/4 basses go to my ex-college roommate, a guy who was my best friend and bandmate since I was 15 years old and who actually (gasp!) gave me the Steinberger in 1982
- my Roland G-303 guitar with the matching GR-300 guitar synthesizer module go to my buddy and former bandmate from the mid-1980s, because we actually went halfsies on the guitar in 1984 and then in '87 I traded him a drum machine for his half
- everything else goes to my best friend, best man at my wedding, and former partner/co-owner of a recording studio in Brooklyn that we ran from 1987-1992


...and then I realized: There is no way in hell I don't outlive all three of those clowns!

So, um, I dunno. Give it all to my nephew I guess?

I really don’t need more dirt pedals, but I couldn’t find anything “ambient” on sale that really got me excited. Maybe I’ll look at plugins today.

Some of the smaller units aren’t wildly priced. If nothing else, seeing/hearing what others are up to helps create ideas for using the gear you already have. But the stuff on the site looks pretty too.

Ya....but import fees suck.
I'll explore stuff with my contact mic with pedals instead. Got a second dd7 so I dont have to pull the one off my board every freakn time.
(The aweful mt2 works awesome with the contact mic. Then stacked with the m85......it gets loud and dirty .
Even did a drone with that set up using a 57 into mt2 into m85 into mixer with reverb and added bass EQ.


Then more destruction with the SP!!!!

That’s what is making my weekend GAS-quisition difficult. I have the budget but I don’t want to manage owning more things that are variations on what I already have (as opposed to problem solvers).

I'm having such a hard time holding onto my budget. These days, the big swings are between gong deeper down the dirt rabbit hole, getting a new (nice) guitar (ideally tele thinline, but maybe a strat or even an SG, my Les Paul is too damn heavy), or possibly exploring a DFAM or Mother32.

I'm doing okay at committing time to gear I'm less familiar with instead of getting more stuff. It's all just too much fun!

I'm all for hardware samplers but that one seems like a computer with Maschine permanently installed with pads.

1799 cad. Ouch!!!!!
I can get 3 good used computers for that price. With money left over to buy Ableton.

IMO, to a certain degree, a hardware sampler SHOULD have limitations compared to a DAW like Ableton or (insert favorite DAW).
It forces you to use workarounds, think differently. It can get the creative juices going.
It takes away some of the option paralysis of 34567898765 FX, with 4567876546 plugins and 100 tera bits of sample packs.

It sort of reminds me of the Octatrack, so I don’t think the price is too far off (apart from our plummeting petrocurrency). If it has proper granular sampling I might be more interested, but so far the listed Reaktor stuff is meh for me.
