Random musing to break the monotony of paper grading....
Well, 2020 was definitely synth gas year for me, Iridum, Wavestate, Tr8s and Hydrasynth. As cool as it is, I'm seeing some downsides... all of these (in particular the WS/Iridium) can get really complex. Complex takes a lot of time to master. I'm finding myself struggling what synth to work on. Now the damn Hydrasynth is in the picture, that's complicating things, even more. I need to not do this, again. At least space 'em out, next time.
Also think it was a bit of a mistake to get the HS so soon after Iridium. As awesome as the HS is (I'm really digging playing the pads and the workflow), it still feels like a step back when compared to the Iridium, both in its capabilities and interface, probably making me a bit more frustrated, as it's making me realize that my progress in sound design may have more to do with the interface of the Iridium than my sound design skills, as I've still yet to make a HS patch that I'm really satisfied with.
I'm not kidding, every night's a damn dilemma, as to what to learn. Of course, I'm still just chucking that out the window and just jamming but I do wish I'd considered this more. I spent so much time with the TR... then the WS showed up. And that dominated my time... until the Iridium... now it's the HS.
I just need to retire and play all day, but my wife's not down with that, yet.

And really, I shouldn't be complaining about anything, as I'm extraordinarily lucky to even be able to afford this gear, as well as have so much time to play them.
It has potential.
Some settings aren meh, some are awesome .
Still in the "trying it out" phase.
I hate the fact the settings are little symbols on the pedal so I need the damn reference card all the time for now.
Big plus is that it works well with my synths.
No huge minus ....yet.....but no stereo is definitely a bummer

Limited usefulness, and it seemed to overload pretty easily on a lot of the settings.
I found it has tons of headroom. Even surprised me.
I can hit the front end HARD with no clipping whatsoever. (By hard i mean one of my synths at ear splitting levels turned on my accident plugged in to pedal)
sounds like options anxiety, a bit.
the hs has fewer programming possibilities, for sure, also a third of the cost, so not a bad trade-off. it also is probably easier to program in the short run (if not the long run).
when i've read about the iridium (and quantum), which i absolutely want to own at some point, it's obvious to me that there is a lot going on under the hood. seems like a very long-term instrument in the best sense of that term.
good news: when you get bored with one of these, you can always get into one of the others.
On the subject of synths, all I have are soft synths but i really dig the Moog model D one.
Any of you guys know of a controller that would have enough knobs to make this thing more hands on for me?
I hate tweaking sounds with the touch screen. All I have atm moment is an akai mpk mini.
Can I add a Knob only controller, using to 2 controllers on one ipad?

The sensel morph is really fun. I think they are having a sale right now.
So strange, as my Moog was overloading most of the settings, I got tired of it.
Yeah, I think it's a matter of time allocation, like if I had a lot of kids. What makes it tougher is the Iridium is just so much more fun. The WS, not so much so. That said, I've made some pretty amazing sounds with it.
the ws seems more like a workstation sorta thing; whereaa, the iridium and hs seem more like instruments. (if that makes sense.)
Workstation as in takes a lot of work? Def. Because when I hear 'workstation' I tend to think "synth with bread and butter conventional usable sounds for giggers'. But that's just me.
Just double checked for you yo be certain you might have had a defect.
I slammed it hard with 2 of my synths, on full plus boosted with OD.
Then tried at direct out of my mixer with everything blinking in the red, Im completely floored the it does not clip or overload one bit. Almost in disbelief. But the tests I did are legit, I hit it HARD, zero issues.
then tested at normal levels, all good, no damage whatsoever.
Did I mention I have a hard time believing it did not clip or overlaod......on any settings....even wet only.
(yes i know I could have blew a resistor doing this, but hey......I did it anyways.)

Is that your mixer? I like that it has a "rude solo" lamp on it.
Ya, it flips me off every now and then and calls me names.
For real, a rude solo light is a must on any mixer. Imo
Live is not the time to find why only the left overhead is coming out of the PA.

EDIT.
It in fact does clip, but only on certain settings.
Im kinda of relieved, nothing can be hit that hard and NOT clip.
Seems only when the decay is set to max and reverb is cycling in a loop in the pedal, and not on all settings.
Some remain clean as %?&*( even when hit with a sledge hammer.
OCD test gear much Ugly??

You def had better luck than I did. It wasn't the right choice for me. I originally thought all the weirdness would sound good with my Moog, but it's a Moog - it already sounds good. I replaced it with an EQD Avalanche Run and it's perfect now.
But speaking of other poorly matched pedals... that Boss Tape Echo... Not the best choice for that Iridium. I need something with more straightforward subdivisions... when you're messing with that head combination thing, it's really hard to just dial something precise in. I gotta figure out what to get to replace it, gotta be stereo, have tap tempo (or better yet, TRS midi), have some pristine delay as well as something with that nice deteriorated tape sound, and can't be ridiculously expensive. I need the tape sound, but I don't need the tape mechanics for this particular synth.
Does that analog bucket brigade sound sound similar to the deteriorated tape echo, or is that something completely different?
I might keep the Boss, for something else, later, but it's def not right for that synth.
