Actually, I’m building a few Reaktor sequencer snapshots based on a cycle progression so I can jazz up my noise. One snapshot per chord. Then, triggering the snapshots changes from Ableton.
Though this seems to have some occasional hiccups when clip-launching the changes, so I’m experimenting with launching from Reaktor and using the snapshot “random” and “morphing” functions.
The struggle is real. Already considering an Erica Black DSP 2 module. It’s got more ambient effects than the delay I have in my System, and it would be nice to have the effects on the rack. Of course I have plenty of plugin and pedal effects. I think it’s also 2hp wider than the delay I already have so I’d need to pull two modules to drop in this one.
I could also start a second skiff.
Either way, I expect I will get my chops busted by ugly
+1 on the 3rd skiff. FWIW, if I was buying a modular effects unit, I’d either get a single knob per function device like the Afterneath, or go all out and get the Happy Nerding FX Aid XL. But if you have pedals you like not on your board, you can also get a I/o module for pedals. Highly recommended.
The Erica DSP2 has three knobs to control parameters which vary by patch, so it’s floating knob-per-function, along with preset saving ability. I’ve already got an output module that works for sending to effects, but I don’t have a module to let me route instrument or line level audio in... yet.
It’s worth having an amp module — the Ladik is good and cheap (will take awhile to arrive). Or the Gozinta which can double as a distortion.

I’ll say this: my understanding of sound synthesis, signal processing and even some aspects of computation has greatly increased since I started playing around with modular in 2014. But it is also very expensive and bottomless and it’s easy to understand your system as always needing something else or needing rearranging. Once I learned utilities were more important than whiz bang bloopilators, that helped.

The pedal hole can run pretty deep too. I just switched the power around and added in the Polarized Flutter on this board. This thing is a monster of possibilities. Just updated Cloudy too so now have some presets to jump to!!!
It's all but modular with the routing possibilities. I rarely put a guitar or bass through it...mostly start with a noise generator like the PurPLL's drone or the MSG II. you can get pretty deep with just pedals. It's an ambience machine though. Each device is a universe unto itself so I get lost in just one and ignore all the others. first world problems...
Don’t be scared of Plumbutter. It’s a fun little beast. I’m still coming to grips with it but I’ve pulled some delicious sounds out of it.
cocoquanus is the scary one to me. I can’t seem to do anything with it but harsh noise. I can’t decide if I should keep wrestling with it or send it on to a new owner.
Ciat Lonbarde just announced a move to Berlin so I grabbed a sidrax before the price increased. Should arrive next week.

here we go! For what it’s worth, I had the DSP2 and didn’t care for it. No matter which setting, the color was the same and I didn’t care for the color. Then again, I love the Mimeophon and you didn’t

When you’re patching away and thinking there’s plenty of time left in the night, and then you get a notice that duke quoted your post.
Finally got so time today to sit down (aka get lost) in my board with the sy1 and the loop with new 3 monkey cables... blown away with the sy1 and how good it sounds! I guess having the expression pedal helps as some settings of the depth / tone past noon are really shrill so I can see how that would be a pain to set.
Thought I had a defective pedal for a bit cos the direct signal wasn’t coming through... but my mini testing so far is that the pedal works ok but my new cables I made must be faulty
apart from the planet waves solderless I have had no luck with solderless grrrr ah well have to try each one and see where the culprit is.
Think i can replace my wah almost with just using lead types with the expression pedal. That and pretty happy how it sounds with chorus and reverb added after.

I actually haven’t been listening as much, because I’m either playing or doing sound design lately. But I have become obsessed with Martin Steurtzer’s stuff, lately. His ambient, Berlin School and dub techno is really clicking with me, lately, finding it very inspiring. Of course, him sharing his Iridium patches helped... I must say, it is so cool to go in and play/analyze a preset that you already know from a piece you like.
That said, a wrench has been thrown into the works of great concern. I’m having rapidly accelerated hearing issues in my left ear. It doesn’t take much to overload it, now, and frequencies of 500 k and up go back and forth from non-existent to excruciatingly painful. I’m seeing an audiologist on Monday, so, fingers crossed. This could have some life altering ramifications that I am not quite sure how I'll deal with, yet.
That said, a wrench has been thrown into the works of great concern. I’m having rapidly accelerated hearing issues in my left ear. Keep us posted on the ear prognosis. One step at a time. Lots of my buds have hearing loss, especially drummers and the « @$$hat leader » of my ex band couldn’t hear anything above 10Khz ( but could magically imagine sharp or flat notes when we recorded......can of worms)
RE: my hearing issues.
I for one have loud tinnitus in both ears since I was 14. Im very lucky that I’m so use to it it doesn’t bother me.
It can drive some people absolutely LOCO.
My ears also «distort » easilyaround 3.5Khz. Yeah , old fart.
I wear ear protection when running my vacuum cleaner now. I've had intermittent ringing from time to time for years, not just from music, but from being around firearms and jet engines and other sorts of machinery in past years. Stuff that most people don't think about, like mowing the lawn. Or running the vacuum cleaner.
