They have limits, but I just plugged the Tonic into my PA and it kicks some hard drums if you tweak it.

I know, they’re dopey little jams. That’s the thing about those pocket operators. They make me just want to do goofy crap
So I found out that the Jam Sync port on my Sdrum pedal can be used to send MIDI clock to my synths via a 3.5mm-to-DIN adaptor cable. And hilarity ensues...
Show Saturday went relatively well. Simple laptop gig. Running iTouchAble Mini app to control most parameter. Using MIDIfighter to trigger a drum rack I built.
Lots of drones. Played around with sidechaining to punch through with the hits. It worked well.
At the show, the sound guy started off nicely. He started bumping up the lows, which was nice but it started getting boomy where I was monitoring on the side of the stage. Then one of the drone loops starred sounding weird. I’m thinking the sound guy was squashing things with the compression. My friends in the house said it sounded fine. I guess I just have to trust that it went well.
The crowd was slack-jawed. This act got pretty extreme relative to the others on the bill. People didn’t know how to respond. They eventually started clapping, but it took them a minute. I probably can’t safely post any pictures here, either

Holy cow. I just confirmed a guest performer at my next LA event, and it’s blowing my mind. He’s a long-time friend and quite accomplished. It’s gonna be an amazing night.
So, you're probably going to tell us who it is at some stage?
Yeah. I’d bet most people in this thread will recognize a band name or two from his resume. I’m still afraid to jinx it.

Well, it looks like I've got to learn how to write "catholic" music. I just got notice of a show coming up, and I need to compose something that fits that Gregorian chant vibe. I've been exposed to that music, but it isn't my regular listening. If anyone has any experience and tips, I'm all ears. Theory, harmony, structure, etc.
I'm starting with this as an model. I'll build and mutate from there.

gregorian chant = modal, monophonic lines sung by multiple voices.
if you want early harmony, you could try organum, which is basically a fixed note/drone with chant-like parts against it. though those parts are a little more jumpy.
perotin, leonin (maybe machaut) are the guys (as i recall).
byzantine chant is also cool. same basic idea, but different flavor.

I'm probably not the only one who digs Nels Cline, sorta wish he was a bass player at times; but him and Bill Laswell gettin' together... feggedaboudit

This has been edited down and tailored because we’re trying for some post-rock shows in 2019. It’s not actually very good sound quality to be honest because it was recorded on an iPhone but it gives a very rough indication of what we’re doing.
