I have the Taakab dual LPG (low pass gate for the non-synth nerds). I didn't even know what a low pass gate was before I got into modular, but I love them now. It's a classic example of a device that does one simple thing very well. It just sounds great.
.
I think I’ve got this LPG figured a bit better. It’s cool but not epic. The joystick 2 is epic. That and the VCO2 are really fun in the system.
As LPG’s go, I’d say it’s pretty dang epic! And can CV everything. Really next level LPG
Yeah. It could be a bit better in "both" mode (VCA + VCF). I find it doesn't easily peak high enough for my tastes. You've gotta set the "offset" control starting position fairly low to keep it silent between notes, but then the output level needs a boost. It isn't unusable, but it isn't what I was expecting. Maybe a first-order instead of second-order filter is what I wanted based on my 0-Coast. I actually prefer it in VCA or VCF mode, but not both.
That said, I opted to augment my weekend purchase. I enjoyed the Black VCO 2 enough that I grabbed the Expander module which allows access to some additional features. I was on the fence, but it wasn't too pricey so I caved. I hopped over to Modular Grid and tried to figure out where I'm going to move things, and what a second skiff would look like with my leftovers. I'm kinda tempted to put both Joysticks (1 & 2) in the big case. As fancy as it looks, I think I'm moving the Octasource out to make room. Academically, I get why it is cool, but I just don't use it often.
All things considered, I'm very happy with my new toys, and I've played more this weekend than I have in a while.
@dukeorock - Check the Black Joystick 2. Seriously. 4 Channels. 8 seconds of motion recording. Drone OSC and S&H.

@Feral Feline Mutron and DOD are envelope filters, not LPGs, which the video gets wrong.
I can see why he makes the mistake, though. The effect is similar but the operation is a little different. An envelope filter opens and closes a filter according to the amplitude of the input. Classic LPGs like the Buchla are not resonant (like the Erica is) and attenuate the volume and close the filter at the same time as the input amplitude decreases. What will work best for you depends on what you want it to do.
Google "Buchla bongos" if you want to see one of the standard applications in modular synthesis. They are generally preferred to VCAs when people want a more "woody" or "organic" and less precise decay on a sound. Buchla's used vactrols, whereas the Erica uses some other set of components (which is why it resonates).
Hope that helps!
Quick video of the Joystick modulating the LPG and Delay. Same sequence running through the whole thing. The phone audio didn't do a great job of catching the LPG modulation of amplitude and decay time, but you should hear it change a bit. It can be more noticeable than what this shows.
Notice the button push changing the Joystick channels which changes the modulation destination.
Too late for me.Tremendously helpful and emphatically informative, many thanks!
Do you happen to know, is the Erica using OTA in place of the vactrols?
Many thanks for taking the time to make and post that, I quite enjoyed it.
I'll need to tread in this thread more carefully, that was too much "fun-sounding" and I must be wary lest I get sucked down in to a black hole of trying to solder modular synths together. I'm trying to maintain focus, on seeing what can be subverted from modular to stompbox...
