if we’re lucky, our lives keep changing when discovering new music.
I decided a long time ago I would make an effort to not become one of these people who only listens to whatever they liked when they were young. So far so good.
That doesn't mean there isn't stuff I still hate, all across the spectrum of popular (and unpopular) music, of course.
I just read a business article about how the "work from home" world is impacting coworker relations. The article stated that many people are maintaining their primary contacts but the secondary (or "loose") contacts have fallen away. It really hit home with me. There were definitely people I regularly interacted with in the office simply because we passed in the halls. Our conversations were surface-level pleasantries, but we still exchanged information, and that information had subtle but meaningful influence on daily thought and activity.
I'm seeing this with my social circles. My strong friends are still my strong friends, but the casual acquaintances (friends of friends) you meet at social gatherings are gone. I don't even overhear conversations in the store or at a restaurant.
I view this like the digitization of analog music. What sample rate can you use and still get a result that sounds close to the source material? Can you notice the degradation? At what point does the quality degrade and become unrecognizable?
I think our music appreciation is like this. If you only listen to the primary influences, then you become a "digital" version of what you like. You owe it to yourself to listen to variety, so you can pick up on things you may not even be aware of, and let those influences worm their way into your sound.

Just watched Untitled. I enjoyed it, though I see why it was recommended with some hesitation 
The OTO BAM has made quite an impression. It’s a few bucks more than I’d like to pay for it but it’s almost good enough to make me forget about the price. It really is a space generator, versus the Empress which feels more like an effect. It’s probably going to cost me a few bucks as I will strongly consider the BOUM, and maybe even the BIM.
Any suggestions for a drum machine or any external harware that would allow me to program drum patterns in Ableton ???
Preferably midi and audio. Midi for Ableton drum sounds and audio for sampled drums.
I would prefer something with USB connection over midi connectors.
I can't stand programming drums with my mouse and akai controller anymore.

Probably going to need a Max script. I’d think you can do this with a Novation Circuit, but I’m not seeing any tutorials about that.
What are the sampled drums sampled into? If it's Live, then MIDI should be sufficient.
I mostly want to program outside of Ableton. With mouse and akai controller it's freakin boring.
Also would be looking for midi drum loop bundles and such. (The bigger the bundle the better)

I've been using these for a while. Prices aren't bad. They frequently have sales so jump on a mailing list.
I haven't tried them with Ableton drum racks, but I'm sure they could work and can give it try soon.
MIDI drum loops never did it for me. In software, I much prefer Numerology's drumseq, but that's learning more software.
If it's sampling plus building your own sounds, wouldn't an MPC or Elektron machine make sense for you? I know, way out of the price range.

My guitarist loves his Digitakt, but he's into the Autechre thing, and I'm not sure it has the dynamics you get with finger drumming on pads.
There are some interesting Max4Live rhythm generators that are better than MIDI loops IMO because you can map them to controllers and perform them.
Grids for Max for Live version 1.3 by mots on maxforlive.com is a ton of fun, though hard to repeat (but if you're recording, who cares?).

I was thinking the same thing about Maschine. Dedicated hardware controller. But it is still 100% in the box sounds. Probably not a good fit here.
Also there might be some wall-punching integrating it with Live. I've heard mixed things.
