Yet, you play tame, and that might be the nature of that instrument ......?
While i think that the big blades shine, especially also vs. a different hardness of playing.
But the EQ/pre plays then a role too.

But i have more and more a problem with the side-noises when i record.
even just coming closer to my screen is allready not good. We talk here 4-5 foot. 5´ is "doable", 4´ is not.

No link— it’s a custom instrument built to my specs by Lutherie MF. It is due for a photo shoot. 8 strings tuned Bb0-D4 (BbFCGDACD). The sound is different and lighter because I’m mostly tapping, not playing finger style or with a pick. But it’s funny you hear it as tame. I am all about the distortion, and before developing a hand condition, was rather violent with my 4-string.... But what you hear it what you hear!

Here's my Pork & Pickle review, or at least a review. Not making this public for now - I didn't understand a few things and probably explain them incorrectly, like the effect of the clean tone in the pickle/fuzz mode - I thought it was deactivated but maybe not. Not sure where I picked that stuff up - maybe someone else's review - but the online manual contradicts what I thought was going on.

But anyway, you can hear some of the sounds I got. Played the pork/overdrive setting with fingers first (various drive settings), then pick, then switch to pickle/fuzz.



One of the difficult things is recording both the bass & voice - recorded into my Zoom H6, then put that in ProTools and took out the vocal mic when the bass is playing so you don't hear all the clacking of the bass sound in the room. Likewise for the voice, ducked the bass recording. Ideally, I might appear at the beginning and talk about the pedal, I meant to put in a pic of the bass, and maybe show some footage of the actual playing. But that's a lot of work!

To be honest, I'm almost ready to take the plunge on the Moog DFAM/Subharmonicon (a lot of places are selling for $100 less than before) and embark on my bass/ambient/electronic journey...

(I have it set as "unlisted" - let me know if you have trouble viewing it)

there you sayed it ;)

i envisioned the other day, i could have or make/tinker some string instrument, Bass orientated, to put in front of my modular. something flat lieing. Just a few strings, 2-3. For slide-style playing. No frets.
( now, since i know that these headless mechanics/tuner exist)

you might also check out the Linnstrument. Cheaper than a custom bass, tuned in 4ths, designed for synth control. Mine was a revelation.

Maybe check out the possibility of installing a "dummy coil" to eliminate the 60 cycle hum?
I personally prefer single coils on my jazz, The hum was never an issue for me.
Noise gate can also help, check out some ISP pedals. I own and really like the most recent small one the Deci-mate.
Might be an awesome tool for you also since you love dirt on your signal.

Thanks -- I was thinking an expander or gate my solve my problem (it's what guitarists do). This pedal looks perfect.

We'll see. First, do I want to stick with this pickup? Second, is the hum a problem in real life use? We'll see.

It's become an essential part of my dual amp rig. (Read high gain hm2 tones set at spinal tap 11)
Don't leave home without it!!

ive been thinking about a second amp as well. I’ve been reading up on how doom players do it. Often it’s a clean amp with a fuzz pedal. [looks around, sees clean guitar amp used for practice, sees underutilized bass 2x10, sees extra distortion pedals in FX drawers] hmm....

My Norand Mono synth should be here sometime next week, so I started reading the manual. Starting to worry a little. Some synths/grooveboxes have too much menu diving on a tiny screen, which irritates a lot of folks. The Norand has no screen, but instead has an intimidating amount of button press combos. Gonna have to print up a cheat sheet or three! The sound of the synth, the Elektron style sequencer, tzfm and the super snappy envelopes made me pull the trigger. Plus it was on sale :)
From the clips I’ve heard, this thing can be very similar to a DFAM in some instances, a TB303 in others, an SH-101 in others and reminds me a lot of a Novation Bass Station AFX edition in others. The versatility sold me, but the crazy amount of button combos might be a deal breaker too :)
