10 Hours (More!) of Djent/Progressive Metal made with procedural generation is here! Djent/Progressive metal is one of my favorite genres, with Periphery, TesseracT, Animals As Leaders being in my top. Some time ago, I uploaded a video of a project I've been working on for some time that composes Djent/Progressive Metal music akin to Periphery/TesseracT/Animals As Leaders with procedural generation. An explanation of how this works was posted in the first video, and since then I have added lots of improvements to the algorithm, with much more variation being a big focus! Essentially I started with sampling all the guitar notes on my Ibanez RGIF7 in Drop E tuning, and exporting each note (and variation of that note) into separate audio files. Then I did the same with drums (which I use GGD Modern and Massive for), bass (which I use Submission Audio Djinnbass for) and various synths, so everything exists in separate audio files. I then load that into my program and piece together each song, sample by sample, and that's what you hear in this video! Hope you like it!

I sooooo agree with this.

LOVE the man. And while he gave us some truly incredible, groovy, bad*ss tunes, some of his albums left me wondering.

Hey, I get (but didn't like) the whole "gonna rapidly bust out a few albums so that I can get out of my record contract"... there was some stuff in that run I really didn't care for.

Same with his last 10 years of albums. C'mon, bro...

It isn’t my favorite genre. But I did listen to a lot of the AI generated stuff tonight, and I probably liked it more than some of the man made stuff. I assume the “same key” issue is related to the open string usage in djent.

aal doesn’t seem so same key to me. and they feel like they have more variation.

But I won't.

Actually, on one level I'm impressed, but what's really striking is the amount of labor HE put in to make the computer seem like it was working automagically.

Also, we really, really, need to talk about the song names. I almost fell out of my chair laughing. WEAK GHOSTS!

PS -- the guy jumping out the window gif also is funnier with this music in the background.

PPS -- love Animals as Leaders and Meshuggah, and someone on this thread introduced me to another djent band I really liked.

I randomly only got introduced to tetrarch who I guess are “textural”. I know they have been around for a while but only heard them from a random article mentioning them. It’s pretty much what I like about 90’s nu metal modernised. A bit more technical but a blended pot of early Korn/coal chamber/slipknot/ static x with the bouncy / chuffs riffs and the using the lead to play like a sample / synth layer on top of it.

That's not the worst band I've heard this year. They seem to have missed their window in time, but they could roll along well enough. They could tour with Chaoseum, and those guys have gotten some traction with their heavy Korn influence.



Edit - nice solo around 3:00.
