Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

Who had me next in the covid betting pool?

Tested negative Saturday, precautionary test today positive. Alone in basement for the past 16 hours.
This might be the wave where all of us who've avoided it get it. Good luck.
I actually had someone ask if I'd play a NYE party, no masks, no testing and a known unvaxed person in attendance. Had to say GFY.

After we visit the stepdaughter today, it's back to shutting things down for me and the wife. She has to go into the office twice a week, so if we get it, that's likely where it will be from, and I'll be super pissed.

Is this different from a usual day for you ;)

Good luck riding this out.
Haha, good point.
Still at it, as usual. What else can I do??
;)

Sorry to hear it @Ugly. My friends are getting it right and left, their kids even more. I was possibly exposed a couple days ago but have tested negative twice. We are definitely having another solo holiday here.

An excerpt from this morning's jam with the Cosmos and the Drone Commander module, which always sounds like the drone commander, but in this case, that's good because you can hear what the Cosmos is doing to it. Towards the end I'm experimenting with drive, LP, HP, moving the buffer around different processes, and manually inserting bits of silence to destroy the loop. My penance for not knowing that the erase button is momentary.

I really liked that.

feature or flaw?

Feature. There’s “erase all” to erase everything. It’s just that it’s the only momentary switch on the unit and I’m dense. But I like it, as a way to insert silence into a loop. One of the things about ambient-style looping is maintaining space, and Cosmos gives several ways to do that.

i was being somewhat facetious.

half the fun of this stuff is often making a “flaw” into a “feature”…

Well all this Bandcamp talk is timely. The Halloween streaming event I did in October is now up on Bandcamp. Trevor (the brains behind the event) went back over the entire thing and did some editing and mixing, cleaning up and polishing the sounds. He also split the performance into digestible sections instead of it just being one long hunk of sound.

We talked about making it into a CD that we could give out for Xmas, but that plan got sidetracked, and here we are.

The preview track that pops up (HHHH_2021_11 23:59:10) is something I'm quite happy with, particularly since it has the "I'm trying to catch a monster" sample in it :)

I kinda' wish I'd just catch it and get it over with. Every time I've had possible exposure I've tested negative. I suppose it's still possible I had it at some other point and was asymptomatic, but I don't have any reason to think that's the case other than pure speculation. Heck, with omicron there's been no better time to get it than now.

(This post won't age well if I buy the farm from COVID.)
