For compact, simple, one-stop shopping in an ambient bass pedal I'd personally look real hard at tracking one of these down:



But I'm also biased because I absolutely love that album.

If you don't mind some minimal tinkering, there's this:

With some open-source software and a model file, you can set some parameters for depth, angle, etc. and it'll generate an STL file that you can use for 3D printing (or have someone else print it through Treatstock, a local makerspace or library, etc.)

I recently sized it up and messed with the model a bit to remove the curves to make myself a stand for my Minibrute 2S. The total cost was $26.39 with shipping and I'm pretty pleased with it. For something pedal-sized it might be about half that.

I've owned a short-scale fretless for a while but only noodled with it very casually until recently. I'm only about a month into learning to play. I've been into synths since the mid-80s, played violin as a kid, a very little bit of jazz piano in high school, and taiko drums.

U-Bass is a ukulele bass -- it's about 20"-23" scale length, strung with low-tension strings and with a piezo pickup, but the same range as a regular bass, and it can sound more like an upright. There are hollow body versions that look like a slightly oversized uke, and solid-body versions that look like a miniature bass guitar.

(Technically U-Bass is a brand name owned by Kala and I have a Hadean, but "U-Bass" is shorter to type and sounds cooler than "ukulele bass" or "bass uke." And except for the higher-end Kala models, the cheaper brands are pretty much identical to a Kala anyway.)

It’s a Night Owl Monolith, which is a gain boost with an EQ shape. Paris cuts the low end and Kim boosts it. The expected use is as a post-amp (vs. pre-amp) so you set up all your tone shopping ahead of it, then kick it on for a solo. They’re out of production now, but it’s a cool little widget.

Oh. It is named for that reason.

Well, I'm hoping this is a temporary thing but I just noticed a couple of bad signs in my right ear. I started noticing an echo/delay and certain high frequencies were harsh. Then I noticed my right ear has lost a significant amount of low frequency hearing, below 1k. It feels like there's some pressure, so I'm hoping it is a temporary thing like a minor infection, but it is time to get a medical professional in the mix.

I have a certain degree of permanent hearing damage (including tinnitus) from going to tons of concerts without wearing ear protection. Hopefully yours isn't permanent!

Yo,

I've been pretty busy for the last while with actual paying electronics projects and now NAMM is lurking in early June. New 4 string fretted incoming, which will be the first since 1983 when I sold my largely unloved 70s Fedner(sic) Jazz Bass. It has a 3 JB pickup format and things will inevitably get weird.

Traded away a dust collecting spare 115 cab last week, I had just been looking for enough cash to buy something like a MOTU M2 or M4. But no, not meant to be, I must settle for a MOTU 828x on an even trade instead. The humanity! ;)

Hmmm, where to tuck it away for now? Oh, in this 3 space rack with a tube guitar pre and a solid state bass one...done:

It’s a slippery slope :) I bet if I keep looking I could convince myself I’ve got a rare blood borne disease caused by a mosquito who bit me after feeding on someone who recently returned from a jungle expedition to parts unknown, and my hearing loss is a precursor to my bones liquifying if I eat the wrong species of blueberry.

I’ve got a GP visit shortly. Hoping he looks in and sees an easily fixed issue like a minor infection.

Your post got me thinking (because I've been wanting some sort of stand for my pedals since I usually use them tabletop), and so after a quick search of thingiverse I found this one: Guitar Pedal Stand & Dowel by izash

I'm running off a test print of it right now. Looks like a good option for a stand that is at least somewhat adjustable (and easily scalable in my slicer). I'll see how nicely this turns out.
