Amp Wont turn on

I think its a chip amp because i see a 14 pin chip on the board. I can bring it in to my engineering class or my dad knows an electrician.

I think its the transformer because nothing on the board gets hot. and the switch light doesn't turn on. My guitar works fine. I can always just use my computer and use Guitar Rig.
 
All cables are Intact and have solid connections.

When I put the multy meater to the prongs(Lugs) i had the amp off and it read 00.00 on all settings. I then turned it on and got the same thing. Is the transformer ok?
 
K so then that means the transformers shot. Can i use an ac adaptor close to what the transformer does? and just

i have a 9v 11w adapter and the connector for it. would i be able to find instructions to converting the transformer to that.
 
If you do not know what you are doing please STOP!!! Before you kill yourself. Take it to someone who does know. I have over 35 years training and experience in tube and solid state amps and I strongly advise you to stop now. and no you can't just take an ac adapter to replace it and there is a lot more to determining if the trannie is bad or not..
 
There are many, many different areas of "engineering" but if your class deals with this kind of stuff, maybe take it in there and see what your instructor thinks about it. It's a little 15w practice amp with minimal circuitry, good a place to start as any. If you're thinking a wall wart can take the place of the transformer, you're not far enough along in the class to be messing with it beyond the obvious loose connections and fuses.
 
If there are only 2 wires hooked up the power switch, twisting them together would be the same as turning the switch on. That means it'd be on whenever it's plugged in, the only way to turn it off is to unplug it from the wall.


Hint: unplug it before you twist the wires together and screw a real cap over them, don't just use tape or leave them dangling.
 
Can you follow the power wires (from the cord) to where they connect to? If you can, use the meter (on ohm's) to check the cord: cord UN-plugged check each blade on plug to the black wire and then the white wire. the ohm's should drop to zero for one wire on each blade.
 
should have 3-wires, black = hot, white = neutral, green = ground.
question:
are the wires on the switch two on each side?

I am guessing the black wire from the cord goes to the fuse and comes off yellow to the switch?
