Normally if you are interested in a piece of gear, it's because you've seen or heard it, or you've looked at the specs on a website, or something. No one just comes up with a random model and needs to know everything about it, including size, weight and power, without any prior info.

And when that exact model is the subject of 3 'controversial' concurrent threads, and the questions slowly lead to the controversy at the exclusion of all else, in a direct line with no other attention to anything but that issue, you can pretty well guess where it's going. Menno was onto it from the beginning, and his comment was way more gracious and funny than mine.

He doesn't 'speak for' Ampeg. He uses and endorses their product. you are confusing the roles of individuals who receive compensation for using a product with those who are employed for the company that makes them.

Crap, what am I defending him for? He does alright himself.

Dude you got to stop smoking that stuff. My friend tryed this amp and i was interested in it as i like the ampeg sound and he told me it was small.Im 18 only been playing bass a short while i wasnt expecting all this from you guys but i learned a lesson

Simple. I don't speak for Ampeg, nor do I work for Ampeg. I use their stuff and I'm quite honored they asked me to endorse them, and I'm happy to tell folks what I know about it, but I speak for me only. And if they choose to end their relationship with me at some point, then I'll play their stuff and pay full price again ;) Either way, I'm cool with it. I do think you had your mind made up from the getgo, though. That's cool, though...I'm not getting commissions and losing one sale they never would have made anyway isn't going to hurt them. Nice amp, but like I said before, maybe not what everyone's looking for.

I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt.

If you are sincere I apologize for calling you a troll. But 18 is an adult, and you are only getting back what other adults will give you if you treat them with so little respect, and make so many assumptions about them.

Take it easy, be cool here and you will be seriously rewarded with the knowledge and experience of bassists at every level, who have probably some experience with whatever you might need help with, at every level of your progress as a musician.

Share your enthusiasm for the instrument and take what you need, ignore the rest (I should practice what I preach a lot more).

Otherwise it's like walking into a giant circus fairground on a sunny day, with $100 in your hand, and instead of enjoying the food, rides and the cute girls in line, going straight up to the Strongman, standing on tippy-toes, reaching up and biting him in the balls, and not letting go for anything.

You have too short time in TB to claim that. I've heard most of the veterans talk nicely about other amp brands than what the absolutely prefer to use. I've seen Jimmy praises Hartke (BIG time), Markbass, SWR, Fender etc. his love to Ampeg is loooong before his endorsement, probably from the first time he sett his hands on a B15 :)

I don't talk about artist pricing, sorry. But it ain't bad. Not enough to make me play an amp I didn't really like, though.

Anyway guys, I appreciate the defense, but I'm not troubled by it. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go pass out Ampeg catalogs to my neighbors.

Because it's nobody's business but his own, and because endorsers want the artists to keep it to themselves. I've never heard an artist tell anyone what they get from their endorser, other than saying that they "simply get a discount on their gear." A band I'm affiliated with was offered an endorsement from Black Diamond strings, but don't like them, so I don't care what the discount is. The others are using them, and the band overall is endorsed, but it's just a product discount.

"Definitely knowing the right folks is the answer. I got an Ampeg endorsement a few years back because I knew the sales rep and just flat out asked him. Of course, all I got out of the deal was the ability to buy at the "artist" discount, which was 20% off the wholesale price they charge dealers. They told me that they only give the stuff for free if you can show some chart activity. That may have been aline of bull, but at least I got a $1500 bass rig for $600 new."
