Okay where I am at with the whole thing.

I went back and retried the GK. The GK presents a good strong sound, and after futzing around with the EQ, managed to get a good decent sound through the Isovent, but even still I found myself using the MXR Dyna Comp. I did get a good balanced sound with warm tones, but the blemish is still there is you know what you are looking for, but the GK actually did impress me.

I went back to the Mesa, got a fairly good dial in, but again preferred to use the Dyna Comp towards smoothing out the balance, and overall, I can live with it this way for the time being while I get Other Things Done.

I hunch is, probably the best course of action is to get the Rolls RPQ for Surgical Removal, and then some sort of Compressor/Leveling Amp for Planing Out the Balance.

By the way, does anybody make a Leveling Amp that is itself the PreAmp?

Now I know the recommended is NOT to get too carried away with this, but out of my own curiosity, at some point in the NOT Too Distant Future, I will probably get a Crown Drivecore DSP Amplifier just to see what I can do with the DSP capability.

A learning tool to play with.

These new Drivecores are NOT too expensive and it would be fun to see what the technology can do for this old NOT so well balanced cab.

Currently I have it set up so I can switch between my fairly well balanced stacked bi-amp practice rig and the Mesa/Isovent.

The goal is NOT to get too carried away with this, and I could develop some sort of mega rack system just put this Isovent in check, but at my stage in the game, NOT spending too much money, when I have already spent a fair amount, is generally the goal, while devoting the vast majority of my effort towards practicing and devloping as a bass player.

However I can't help but want to put a Drivecore onto this Isovent.

Maybe a 500 Series mini rig will work?

Is there a way to convert Nutrix to Quarter Inch?

Actually, any of us can tell you what to do and likewise "Too bad."

This last post started out great until the admonitions at the end. I liked your experimentation and I like your gear. Would love to have most of it.

You admitted that the resonance was likely from the cabinet- this information was given
to you freely by an actual expert in amp and cabinet design...in the first 5 replies. Then you still chose to pursue your windmill jousting and ignore and even question, with poor logic, those that know better than you.

But WE are the @$$holes...ok.

By analogy, in a similar concept, for example, I have seen old milling machines totally overhauled and refurbished, and modernized to include modern high precision automated servo driven capabilities, and when these old milling machines were sloppy as hell, after the modernization overhaul, the same machines exhibited incredibly high levels of precision.

The concept with the Isovent and Crown Drivecore DSP would be the same. Take something that has imbalances and via the Drivecore DSP capability, develop a far better balanced Isovent than it is now.

If the Drivecore DSP works the way I think it will, then we should see a Vast Improvement in the functional capability of the Isovent, and when I do see a Parametric EQ/Compressor combination for the Isovent, Honestly I see a Crown Drivecore DSP/Isovent capability working really well.

Somehow I see the Drivecore DSP knocking out a few birds with one stone.

There is nothing about your speaker that's analogous to a mill or lathe.

I have a fair amount of experience in that world (my engineering partner is a retired machinist from a research university and NASA background).

The machines that do well modernized were excellent quality machines when they were new and the modernization improves an already excellent (and proven) machine.

Couldn't be said better and I have quite a few hours running Bridgeport (and Haas) mills.
These machines were quality and are able to be repaired after thousands of hours of hard, industrial use.
Servo motors and digital displays did not make them more accurate; just easier to use.

The cabinet in question was never a quality piece of equipment the day it was built and still isn't.
I have owned a Walkabout and currently have a 1001RB.

We all hear it differently.
The EQ settings photographed (60 Hz at -15dB for the WA with the bass control full up, and, all the low and hi mid pulled on the GK) are not EQ settings that I would consider musical.
Curious as to how others feel about these severe EQ settings for a bass guitar application.

"One mans meat is another mans poison" comes to mind
Never realized they were talking about audio in approx. 75 BC.

They must not have known about a ReWire back then...

Clearly I wasn't the only one scratching my head at those pictures of the dial settings. I'm all for trying all the dials to see what you get and looking for tones rather than running flat, but I don't understand why anyone would want to use settings those in the photos. Most of those settings are counter-intuitive for bass amplification.

No you weren't! I know more about that eq than just about anybody (for obvious reasons) and I can't figure out why somebody would do that (or want to do that either ;)
