Just checked it with my V4BH and yup - same thing. I'm gonna inspect the driver again - make sure there isn't a piece of packing material or something goofy inside touching the cone causing it - and then give the good folks at LOUD a call to see they think.

Oh geez, I just thought of the width thing...better measure your lid and make sure it'll fit the 7 Pro before you go trying it.
I don't have either of them . . . yet. But, I'm just thinking out loud. Thought about picking up the PF500 but thinking about holding out for the 7Pro. I haven't actually had a 7Pro locally working yet so it would have to be an online order. I'll have to wait until funds are more readily available. Until then I'll be stuck with my SVT-II non-pro.
nice sound, but not really a loud band so does anyone have any clips in a louder situation? looking for a relatively cheap amp as a backup and practice amp and i am not sure if the PF500 is going to be able to keep up.
It'll be as loud as any 500w amp. If you have problems keeping up using a 500w amp, it ain't the amp...it's the cab.
I've owned the 7pro. My pf500 gets here tomorrow, but I have played one at GC. I tend to agree about liking the 500 better. I could in no way tell you why however.
They are very similar but like the gain section of the pf500 more, maybe I don't like the sound of 12ax7's. I find that hard to believe though.

Last Ampeg I bought with a tube had Groove Tubes in the pre.
Groove Tubes don't sound good to me. Throw a Mullard in there and it might change your mind.
It is good advice but no need to spend crazy $ on a 12AX7.
NOS Mullards are great tubes and will last forever but they are overrated in the tone dept, especially for bass. A new production Tung Sol or a NOS JAN Philips 12AX7..just to name a couple... will be a nice improvement over the stock tube.
I just bought a new Mullard for 20 bucks. If 20 bucks is crazy $ they wouldn't have bought a SVT 7 Pro lol
I am not talking about the original but the repro that has gotten great reviews and sounds fantastic. I would never spend more than 25 bucks on a preamp tube, it doesn't affect the tone on bass enough to matter
Hell, even a Sylvania or RCA gray plate is a pretty awesome tube to try. I don't mind Groove Tubes so much. People on her bag on them for rebranding tubes you can get for cheaper, but by and large I've had very few failures with them, and honestly, I can't tell the differences in tone with any of them. Some can, but it's so subtle that I can account for most of those tonal changes just by turning a tone knob ever so slightly, so I don't sweat it. I mainly get NOS because they last longer, but I don't mind the sound of new tubes.
Once you kick the gain up about halfway I can hear the subtle and not so subtle differences.
Groove Tubes just never really get warm or break up much. They are hearty tubes and that's probably why Ampeg uses them.
Don't know if they use them anymore. I seem to remember Johnk saying his SVT-VR came with Sovteks, and they're using a lot of JJ's in their amps, too...I'm pretty sure the tube in the 7 Pro is a JJ.
That would be better than a Groove Tube
JJ is my go to tube for just about everything. Until I tried this Mullard reissue (not in a SVT 7 Pro). I still keep a JJ around though.
Edit: For the record my PF350 and 2 PF115 cabs come in on Thursday. Not tube related, but I am stoked
