+1 Well said! You and I are definitely hearing these heads in the same fashion. My thoughts mirror yours fairly closely. That 7Pro definitely needs some more love (especially now that they fixed a couple of issues with the very first units).
yeah, it was a smokin' good amp! they all were, but man...i wasn't expecting THAT!

clint, since i'm not a big fan of that huge low end in the 410hlf, i don't think it had anything to do with the cab imho. i think it's just a balls sounding amp.

 i don't want to hear that. I tought i was settled on the 500:hmm:

I won't decide until i hear the new cabs with the 500. If they are not up to par then the 7 may be in my future with existing cabs i already have...

not a thing in the world wrong with the pf-500, bro. but you know, you add a few tubes, you increase wattage, and it does really open things up. you pay for it, though, so the 500 is still a great value imho.

oops: for some reason i thought the 7 pro had more than one tube. just has one.

My concern was I was going to get an 80hm Carvin 115 then add a 210 later....The Carvin cabs are rated at 600 watts each cab..they are the neos.

I am afraid though that both those cabs at 4 ohms may be to power hungry...and I wont get enough push to them so to speak.

I am thinking the 4 ohm 15 would do the trick for most gigs....or would the 2 be better?

Jimmy or Tom any imput on this would be appreciated.

I like this head alot so I will be keeping it just want to make good cab choices...Thanks

Making good cab choices is always a valid concern. Knowing how loud you need to be to fit into your gigging situation/mix is one of the key issues. The efficiency, Xmax, radiating area, off-axis performance, and many other factors are also important.

FWIW, I would expect the PF500 to do a fine job driving a 8-ohm 2x10 and an 8-ohm 1x15. The caveats are that I have not tried those Carvin cabs, and also that in some (probably most) situations you will get better results by pairing two like cabs (e.g., two 2x10's or two 1x15's, versus a mixed stack).

I would expect that head to work reasonably well with a variety of cabs.

Thanks to Tom and also Jimmy for their replies. I really liked the Pf through the 610 Ampeg but I am not lugging that Beast around no can do.

So from the input I have recieved I am going to try 2 8 ohm Cabs....I am going to try a Carvin Br115 first then add another later, if anyone can recommend another set of good Cabs in the price range which is like $ 400.00 I am all ears.

I was also considering some Bag End 15's as well. Thanks again for all your patience with me.

Just ordered a PF500 for cheap and I'll see what I can get out of it when it gets here and does a couple of gigs. Then I'll see if the Edens or the Ampegs stay. Or maybe one of each.

Already tabulated your vote on that, Jimmy. :D
ya, in the ampeg vs eden fight, i'm certainly not impartial ;)

but i'll tell you, that svt 7 pro is amazing. must be the tubes that make the difference, but man, what a sound! played it through a 410hlf...it does have a very similar tone and eq to the pf500, but there was a certain weighty feel to the notes that was so very sweet as you played it. we've taken to calling it "oomph," but whatever you call it, it's there to a greater degree than any other micro head i've played (note: i haven't played all the newest micros). ok, it's a big micro, but it's class d with an smps so it's not a lead sled. but as close as i thought the micro vr was to hitting the real thing, the 7 pro kicks it up several notches. as it should.

ymmv, but i was totally into all 3 of those amps. as the price goes up they get better, but i thought that for inexpensive micros, the pf amps rule hard. so to sum up:

pf-300 and 500: great for the money
svt 7 pro: just plain great

Been running my 7 through the avatar 3 way. Its a beast of a rig. oomph is certainly a great way to describe it.

It's the distortion at full power output.

Funny before I joined tb all I ever did was play. Never really thought much about my gear or sound. I would pick up a bass I liked and an amp that got loud enough for and audience to hear and that was the end of the process. Now I know all of these things that just make my head spin. Sometimes I think we should all just go back to buying what sounds good and not worry about the spec sheets and what name is on the outside of the box. Oh well guess you have to have something to do all day at work when you can't be playing.

Curious which one of us got the PF-500 used from MF last night. Saw it for like $50 less than new and in stock yesterday afternoon. Must have been a return. Decided to buy it, but figured I would wait until after work and by the time I got home from the kids soccer game it was gone!! Oh well sucks for me probably good for a fellow TB'er.

Avatar speakers may just be the best for price IMHO

Oh, the "sounds good" rule still applies. ;) My unit's coming from m123 so someone else got the one from MF.
