Ampeg PF500/PF350

Well my saga continues...
I originally purchased the Ampeg PF350 Amp head and the SVT210AV. Sounded great in GC but in a small to medium church it sounded thin.

So I went back to GC and ordered the GKMB115. It sounds ok but... it isn't an Ampeg! I just overall like the Ampeg sound.

So... I am going back to GC and getting the Ampeg PF500 and the B115E, I think.

I really wanted something I could carry myself and I won't be able to carry this. I am 5'2 and female... Not a weakling but too many years in the Tae Kwon-Do ring has beaten me up.
Preference is: lightweight - but can't seem to find that.

I would have preferred a 1x12 but Ampeg doesn't make that anymore.

What are your opinions/take on this?

I just want to get what I like and move on. Some people love buying and trying new things, I don't. But I had to have a new Amp and this is where I am at.

I think you may have liked the PF350 better through a PF210 or PF115 cab. If the GK is working for you except for the lack of 'Ampeg-ness', maybe a Tech21 VT Bass pedal (or some other similar pedal) might be a solution that will give you "That Ampeg Sound", but allow you to use the GK which is easier to move around.

I wouldn't rule out the PF500 with the PF210E or PF115E. We just received a PF500/115E combo in for review, and so far, I'm fairly impressed. If you want more lows, that Ultra Low switch is very helpful!

While not unmanageable (and it does some with casters), the PF500/115 can be a bit hard to carry by the top handle (especially up steps). But if you can roll it most of the time, it shouldn't be too bad.

Well, then you should be able to whip any amp's butt! :D Did you compete? For how long? I'm currently a red belt (1st rank) in Tae Kwon-Do, and really enjoying it (though I have no plans to compete).

well, i ordered the pf500 with the pf1x15 from sam ash. should be here saturday. we will gig it that night. i am going to run it with my other 1x15 as well. it is a g-k cab for a total of 500 watts through 2 15's. i will be doing a eighties hairband that night and will be using my u.s. peavey cirrus. i will let you all know how it went.

I think both 10" speakers are purple, but the tweeter isn't...

But I haven't looked inside one live yet.

Yes - both are purple :)

I think the PF500 and a 15" cab is the way to go. I've tried my PF500 on different cabs, and it kicks through all of them pretty well. I like the tone I get from my vintage '63 B15 cab and my '66 BT15C 2x15 cab the best. I tried the 2x10 in the store and it was OK, but didn't have the umpfff of a ported 15".

And there's no rule saying you have to attach the amp to the lid.

I was concerned about the same thing. There will be times when my wife will have to transport this equipment, for my son. And I'm not worried about any of this Portaflex stuff...

I finally broke down and ordered a pf500. I have in the past not really loved any of the micro class d amps but this is a Ampeg and I'm a Ampeg guy.

I plan on using my 2 svt 15e's. I have been playing with a very loud blues/rock band and my v4b and I've had to push that amp pretty hard to keep up. Gain at 1, master at 2 or sometimes 3. I'm hoping the 500 watts gives me alot more headroom.

I'm not expecting it to sound like a cranked up tube amp but if It can cop a b100r sound I'll be very happy. I may have to get one of the sealed pf cabs down the road if I want to use it with my upright because the svt 15e's are a bit much for upright but I'm betting the sealed 15 sounds pretty good. I do like my upright with my b100r which is a ported combo but the svt 15 are just too big sounding for my liking with upright bass.

Really looking forward to this head.

I tried a pf500 paired with a single SVT-15E just a week and a half ago, and loved it. I was just a little nervous about pushing it. But that's nothing that couldn't be fixed by adding a second 15"...

I'll be a happy PF500 owner next week: cool:
It will be used with both my SVt15 and SVT410HE. I think i won't be able to sleep until there...!

Just picked up a PF115. On my way to a gig outdoors. I'll be pushing this with my Little Mark II, using my 55-01 into a VT Bass. It's the only cab I am bringing, so hopefully it will pass the volume test. Modern country band - one guitar, keys, drums and bass with PA support. I'll let ya's know how it does. Looks pretty dang cool, and it's lighter than I expected.

PLEASE GIVE ME AN OPINION!!!

My local GC has a PF210 that I played and love the sound. With sales this weekend the price is right. I just wonder if it will be enough coupled with my PF500 to drive a typical bar/club weekend warrior gig with no PA support.

Thoughts?
