Ampeg SVT 7 Pro Club

Tried this too (with the 410 Heritage).
Sounded better in my ears but still the Micro VR goes deeper then the Pro 7 which was more obvious on the heritage because it goes much deeper then the PN410.
So at the end sold the pro 7 and the PN410 and kept the Micro vr with a Heritage for the louder gigs.
Perfectly happy now.
Verdict: Pro 7 with PN410 "not my cup of tea"

Let's just say this wasn't about discounting your experience. Like I said, I'm glad you were able to find what worked for you. But I think it safe to say you were more the exception than the rule. BGM and their reviews are very much respected here on TB.

This was more about me justifying the over $2,000 I just spent on speakers. I'm confident that this new rig I put together is going to kick some serious A$$! :bassist:

I really would like to hear from you after a few gigs what's your experience.
Because maybe it is an exception but i played a few gigs with an other bassplayer (lot of repertoire,double band) and he felt exactly the same as me actually ,even worse and he was playing a Fender J-Bass wich should be much better cutting through because of the bridge pick-up. My guess is that this combi is way to clean and as we all know real clean bass is difficult to hear in the mix that is why the pa on stage for bass setup has been away since the 90's

I'd be happy to give a review. The PN cabs are built to order with an eight weed wait but I'll post my experience.

I'm told they are built to order and my order wasn't going to come in until mid June. Then last week my guy here spoke to the Ampeg warehouse and was told they have a pair like new B stock that I could get for $150 off and I could get them next week. So I went with that.

Sweetwater sells these for $1250ea. My dealer was going to sell them to me for $1025ea. But I'm getting the B-stock for $950ea. with full warranty.

OK... First practice with the new 7Pro. As I expected this is a great amp! We practice at gig volume and I'm running through a pair of GK MBE cabs. I can tell this amp it dancing the edge of their comfort zone so I think it will really sing once I get the PN-410's within the next few days. If they perform like I'm thinking they will, I'll finally have THE Ampeg rig I've always wanted. :D :woot:

These are hi end pro speakers designed and built (I think) by Ampeg's Loud Technologies sister company EAW. There's a great review of these in Bass Gear Magazine #7. Here's what they said when compared to Epifani...

"Compared to an Epifani UL-410 (early Series 2), the PN-410HLF is more warm, full and balanced, while the Epifani is bigger/deeper, and also more bright."

They reviewed the 7Pro along with the PN-410's. Gave them both high marks. The only let down was that even though the amp is rated at 1000 watts at 4 ohms. Their bench test showed the output at 4 ohms to be 764 watts. Still a healthy output though.

So this thread is a couple years old so I'm guessing there should be some good insight. I'm a Ampeg fan having had several cabs and a couple heads. I want a 7 pro . Are there certain years or serial numbers to stay away from? What else to look for?

Wish I could help. I don't think there're any kind of specific numbers or years identified as a problem.

I got mine factory fresh after a two month back order and they are still on ver. C00. I just made sure to buy new from an authorized dealer/service center. And that's my advice.

If you need to buy used don't get ver. A00 or B00 unless you can verify five or more years of issue free service. Or snag one from somebody who did have a problem and got the mainboard replaced.

A lot of people down the amp BUT I LOVE MINE tone wise and weight wise.. I would definitely get a new one as they seem to improve on them as time goes by and its better to have the warranty as a just in case. I had a new board put in under warranty as mine just stopped working and since having it back it cut out once or twice but it is AWESOMEhead and i would get one again for sure.
