Ampeg SVT 7 Pro Club

Here's a photo of my 7 Pro in a rack mount for gig's. It is heavy, as it also has the Furman power strip, BBE Maximizer; Samson wireless and Korg tuner mounted. But it's all wired ready to go, just plug in and turn on! Glad to have found this club - number please?

That gk cab was total garbage and jimmy said it best about them sucking. I need to find a 4x10hlf and play through it and see if it's what like. I've also searched the NEO ampeg cabs and was wondering how well they sounded and handled the amp? The price is hard to look at but I do understand they are probably worth it. I've also looked at avatar cabs and their neo line. I'm just trying to get the best advice before I spend money.

I'm using the avatar TB153's. Typically one is more than enough, but a pair of them will match an 810 and then some.

I picked up the mesa standard 2x10 600w. Let me tell you this..

I've never been happier with my bass tone! I got to play a gig on Halloween and it blew my mind at the tone this amp gave me. I still have some fine tuning to do as far as the compressor and gain settings. One of our guitarist that plays a blues deluxe reissue plays be hind me and our amps sit next to each other and its hard to monitor at times because that 40w amp is loud as hell on 3. But I loved the tone I was getting. I was conservative on my volume because I didn't want to blow any speakers.(probably won't)

1 thing I noticed at practice though is I had forgotten to turn the horn off at one practice and towards the end of our practice I started smelling that dreaded smell of electric heated smell, I was worried it was a voice coil but I think it was that cross over. Either way this ampeg7 after being so disappointed in the beginning has made me super happy!
Now for bigger shows I'll still probably get a single 15 or a 4x10 for when we do rodeos and open for the bigger regional acts but I'm completely satisfied!

Is that a Traditional PH210, a Vintage PH210 or a standard Powerhouse PH210? It does not look like a Traditional PH210, which has a cloth grille, and is very different from the standard/vintage PH210 (which I have, and which is my favorite sounding 2x10).

This is a good day !

My SVT7PRO just got in today, bought it used from a trusted local shop (they bought it new and rented it to one of their employees for a while). Got a chance to play with it and do a quick A/B with my PF-500 (now on the selling block). I can't wait for Thursday's band rehearsal...

I have a couple of questions, hopefully they weren't asked before.

  • My current cab is the Classic Series 410 HLF, which can handle 500w @4ohm... am I in trouble here ? (I was told by a bassist bud that I'll be OK as long as I don't max the gain/volume knobs, but I wasn't planning to anyway :))
  • Like the PF-500, seems the real power kicks in when you get close to noon ? (by comparison, I had a Hartke 5500w that I never brought to more than 9 o'clock, otherwise, everything would quake'n shake, including bandmates...)
I don't want to fry my cab, but I can't flip it for now...

The 410HLF will be fine. Heed the advice of your bassist pal and just don't max the master and gain. Your cab will tell you if you're pushing it too hard. As for your Hartke being louder at 9 o'clock it's just the way Ampeg and some other manufacturers set their volume taper. It's not a design flaw. some amps are loud when the volume is set low, others start to get loud at the halfway point or higher.

If it gets to a point where you are struggling to hear yourself or the cab is really being pushed beyond a safe volume it may be time to consider another cab or ask your bandmates to turn down.

I often had the master volume at 1-2 o'clock and the gain at about 12 with no issues at all, going through the same 410 cab. You'll be fine! Good luck with it!

Well... today being a statutory holiday, I got the chance to play around with it and tackle the learning curve. More of that will come tomorrow at band rehearsal.

One startling discovery (for me): how good the rig sounds when I'm sending the pedalboard through the fx loop. I've never been a fan of loops, actually never used them in a band context, only a few cursory tryouts at home and almost everything I've read about them told me not to bother. But this one's something else ! Another benefit: it quiets everything down, to the point of being practically noiseless, as opposed to using the regular input.

Is there a settings thread somewhere ? I started browsing over the 83 pages, but haven't seen one. Always nice to see how fellow bassists use it. I'm using flat settings for now, which seem to work well, but I'm still searching for a good midrange / frequency combo.
