Ampeg SVT 7 Pro Club

Hmmm... don't know if I got lucky or not, but I got this case used for 100 $ in a local shop this morning. This seems pretty solid, so my 7PRO should be well protected.

Hi,
At practice last night my Ampeg 7 Pro kept shutting down and powering back up by itself. It was running fine for a couple of hours. Then it started shutting down for 5 or 6 seconds then came back on... stayed on for a few minutes, then same thing again. Happened a dozen times or more before I shut it down for good. For the times it was running in between shut downs, it sounded fine. Any ideas? I came home from practice, switched speaker cables, power cables, cabs, and the fan is working. Just running my passive bass straight into the amp. No effects. Gain is at 1:00, Bass is at 2:00. Everything is at 12:00. Compression is at 9:00. Ultra low not engaged. Serial # is SVT7PROANBX0027. Revision is A00. I got the amp from a guy at Ampeg in a trade about 4,5,6 years ago. So I'm pretty sure it isn't under warranty. I live in Canada, so shipping it to Ampeg could be a problem. There is a local dealer about an hour away, but I'm not sure how familiar they would be with the issues that some of the 7 Pros have encountered. Any suggestions?

I would call Ampeg for sure. Maybe there is a tech near you that can fix it.

I'm also wondering this. I'm really tempted to trade my MB Fusion 800 for a 7 Pro (I love the tone and the FX blend is a very nice feature since I run two channels in parallel), but the issues of the design are more than a little disconcerting.

Most of us more recent 7Pro owners have gone through this same thought process. I decided it was the amp for me (after renting one) and then bought brand new because it comes with a 5 year warranty so I figured that would have me covered.

Even though it would've have saved a lot of money - I decided not to take a chance on a used one. However if I were to go used - I would definitely look for the most recent board revision - this is important

I've had mine for about a year now and I am really happy with it. I am a weekend warrior - not a working pro - but I am in 2 bands and this is my main amp so I practice and gig regularly with it and I have put the amp through its paces.

So....buy new with confidence - or buy used with caution.

I bought a new one last august not knowing about its issues. I have played about 4 gigs and practiced probably about 16 times on it. It blipped out once for a second and acted a little weird. That happened at a practice. Other than that, I haven't had a problem. If I knew about the issues it was having, I would have probably gone with the svt 4 pro. Too many people have gotten a lemon with this amp, it seems. I think most people who buy one gets one that works, however. At least I hope so. Other than the constant worry that it will die any minute, I like the amp.
