Let me guess...you worked there in 2007-08. Bad years for Ampeg for sure. That period did leave a bad taste in folks' mouths, including mine. But they fired the former head idiot of LOUD in late 2008, moved out of the crap Vietnam factory, and QC got quite a bit better. It has a lot to do with my *sigh* time working at GC. Still, from that experience (about 3 years), I saw way more defunct SVT's come back, than GK. Ampeg gave me a really bad vibe after that.
----Do you have the SVT 410hlf or the PF410hlf? You can't run your SVT 410hlf at 8 ohms unless you change the speakers, at which point it's no longer an SVT 410hlf. But the PF410hlf does run at 8 ohms.
I have not attempted to run my new 7 Pro at 4 ohms yet, save for a brief at-home experiment, but it's two weeks now and still running like a top![]()
I've run the 7 Pro into a pair of SVT 210av's with a combined total power handling of 400w before and had no problems. I think the lightweight amps with buttloads of headroom sound better than amps without it. However, as you insinuated, you have to run them smart, and if you have an itchy volume knob finger, not the move. Still, with a 410hlf, you're going to be insanely loud before that happens.----
Ah, I see. I have the SVT 410hlf. So in other words it may be unrealistic for me to get a the svt7pro since it puts out 1000 watts at 4ohms. Since the peak handling of the cabinet s also 1000watts, that's pretty much a set of blown speakers waiting to happen. (I hit the strings very hard)
If I got another cabinet (maybe a portaflex 2x10), would this help my case? I am thinking that it would considering the current (proportional to power for constant voltage) will be spread amongst the cabinets, based on their resistance.

I think it's time we do away with the myth that PCB's with surface mounted components are unrepairable at component level. They've got specialized tools just for surface mount PCB's, and they're as repairable as any as long as the tech has the tools and is willing to invest a little time into learning how to use them.
Yep at almost 60 I bought this
Just under $100 (on sale) and have been doing repairs to those "un-repairable" boards. If a grumpy old fart can, a grumpy young fart can.
Wow, that is cheap. Where did you get that for under $100?
Thanks for the reply and I know they would need to see it to quote a price, but thought with all the cutting out issues there would be some sort problem that was identified as the issue and enough people have had it fixed to have a ball park $. If it's a hit and miss fix, all different issues with the failures, I wouldn't pay much for a repair. You would have to get it looked at to make that determination.
Better warranty then I had. Mine is just over 3 years old, bought a 2 year ext coverage thru GC and it had expired about a month after it started cutting out. Loud did nothing for me other then tell where I can go pay to have it fixed. Crappy CS in my opinion, especially with this amp and all the failures. Great amp when it works tho. Where did the 5 year on electronics come into play at? Far cry from my experience with them.I've had a Rev. C 7PRO for four years now and never had an issue with it until a few weeks ago when it started cutting out while practicing at home.
If I have this right, there is still one year left on the electronics warranty. So, I'll be dropping it off at an authorized service provider and cross my fingers.
I love this head and hope they can resolve the problem.
Can anyone who has experienced this tell me if this is resolvable or do I need to start shopping for a new head? Thanks.
