I recently contacted Loud Tech Inc. regarding this issue to understand EXACTLY why, that even in the REV 00C's, this issue still occurs and I got back what I believe to be a fairly straightforward response that clarified the whole situation for me:
The current revision of the SVT-7Pro is revision C and it is doing very well in the field.
If a SVT-7Pro is bought as new, the warranty is five years electronics and 90 days on accessories/tubes, based off of a copy of the invoice/sales receipt, covering manufacturer’s defects. Often times, we will have our products go into an authorized warranty service center for diagnosis to see if they can duplicate the problem.
However, with a symptom such as your describe, we first like to determine if the amp cutting out, is the result of a manufacturer’s defect or gain staging. The SVT-7Pro is a Class D amp and if it is sent a clipped signal/square wave it will gate itself. However, even if you aren’t seeing any Peak LED’s coming on, we can still overload the circuit. One thing we recommend doing is turning the compression all the way down when you set your initial levels, this way you can guarantee that you have a nice clean signal, and are then applying compression to that same signal.
Compressors are great for warming up a signal, but if one is clipping already it will just turns a very dynamic square wave into a smaller square wave.
Finally understanding the issue has at the very least gotten rid of the nagging doubt in the back of my mind when it comes to considering their products, because I now understand exactly why such a thing would occur in this particular product. I've been frantically researching because I bought the SVT7 just a few days ago and I am currently waiting for it to reach my front door to be paired with svt-410hlf!
I should be expecting it early next week and will test out this gain-staging theory although I feel confident it will go as expected. If I can't get a decent fuzz from overloading the amp without it cutting out, I MAY reconsider my purchase, but then again I can always rely on my Woolly Mammoth for that... Hopefully, this post will up helping some of you who are shopping around for new heads.
