I'm the original orderer of that fine bass. I like the no face dots look and it does have side dots -- avoids any temptation to the bad habit of looking at the front of the fretboard and makes it harder on guitar players to follow what you are doing It's become one of my go-to options on a custom G&L and a bunch of the ones with no face dots in the Rocketmusic G&L archive are my orders (even if I only have one still around). I'm tempted every time one comes back up for sale -- there's another gold SB2 (pre-empress) with no face dots that I think was my Rocketmusic order that I keep typing but not sending a PM about buying back . . .

This bass looks even better in person and you wouldn't believe how light it is if you haven't tried an empress G&L. I was really pleased with how the clear red was rich and dark over the empress.

Yes. I used to have and L2500 and it had a wonderful neck. But I didn't love the tone. I would love the same neck on an Sb2 or a JB style. I ended up with a musicman stingray 5 which is more to my liking and has a similar neck.

Yes they are, that is why I asked. I had already bought a set of Roto 77s, but after playing it last night, I am thinking I may leave them on. are the 40-100? they seem a bit lighter than the 45-105 I usually use.

What strings do you use on your SB-2?

I use D'Addario XL Half Rounds 45-100s. I just put a set of SIT semi flats on my jazz and they are brighter than the D'Addario strings, so I would recommend them if you want the brighter end of a half round string.

I had an SB-2 made about 1990 that I bought as new old stick about 1995. I had it until 2002, but I don't recall it having 6 bolts.

Yeah, I had a '97 ish SB-2 fretless that was 3 bolt. Not sure when the switch over was but my '08 is 6 bolt.

It seems to me it must be a relatively new feature. I've not owned any G&L's yet, but I do try to pay attention when someone posts about them. I think the day is coming soon when I change that.

If that was your bass, you took excellent care of it. I don't find any marks on it at all. I'm surprised you kept it for so short a time.

This is my 2nd G&L. I've played others. I think they are some of Leo's finest work.

If money were not an object, would you go with the GHS or the Labella flats? Yes, the Rotos are stiff, but they do punch.

No money issue, I am very happy with the GHS, compared to the Chromes I used before (and still use now), so you see, I don't feel any need to test the Labellas (though I have read that many find them superior). Maybe some day, but the TI JF344/345 will come first. I have 4 or 5 used sets of Rotos (66 and 77) laying in a box, with a few Chromes, halfrounds and several other brands.

I think '97 is when they started moving to 6 bolt basses. I have a 3-bolt SB-2 that is a '93 and a 6 bolt L2k that's an '06

Yes, for both MIA and Tribute models, and except for the JB and JB5, that have 4 bolts.
