and it starts...modding the Squier 60's CV P

You know, I flipped the necks on my CV P and J just to see what it felt like and I decided I much prefer it with the original neck. It didn't sound quite as good with the different neck. Like wearing the wrong size shoes or something. :D I'll be curious as to how yours turns out.

im dying to get it all together..the neck is quality but im gonna have to spend some time on it to get it really killer...when i get its together ill have to slip over to ohio for a g2g

vintage tint is here..neck will be here in 2 days and then finishing and assembly will be taking place.

i have put a couple very subtle dings and worn the finish just a tad on the belly curve so it appears a little more white then the rest of the blue. after i deglossed the finish i let some grime and sweat and finger oils get at it and bury into the finish and then i took rubbing compound and a speed buffer and went nuts and glossed her back up and it TOTALLY looking perfect and much much much older and looks very legit..not just to me but to perfect strangers but im not gonna show you guys until the neck is on but youre gonna dig it. IM SO EXCITED AND I JUST CANT HIDE IT!!!!

Every mornin' that I wake up I'll immediately check out this thread, then I check it out in the middays and then I check it out right before I go to sleep. ;)

I myself could already install the pickups, but something is holding me back, maybe disappointment of the sound? Someone said 250K CTS pots will cause more (I don't know the English word for it) ''noise/buzzing'' like: RRRRGGGRRGRRRRR....
But if everything is shielded the bass should be fine I guess?

ive never heard the buzzing issue from 250k pots and especially a split coil. i wouldnt stress it but if youre very happy with your sound currently then keep her as is. if youre worried shield it and forget it. either way thanks for your dedication to the thread and i wanna see the results of what you do no matter what.

i say do what you dont have and make it what you want to have the most. if this one pans out well i may be doing a Geezer Butler tribute (black n tort) as well but im loaded with Ps now (working on #4) i may just do a 60s jazz. i really like having my hands so involved with the instrument and my inner tinkerer may have caught some sort of bug here.

BTW GUYS. i know everyone who reads these threads and havent been involved since the beginning probably havent read all of this so i wanna re intor this a bit.

I am not a luthier.
I am a dude who works 50+ hrs a week in retail
this is my first project.
I am NOT a handyman by any means
I do have a background in auto body though which has been helpful on the finish side of things.

im just a guy who bought a CV60'S P SPECIFICALLY TO MOD EVERYTHING ABOUT IT!
this was a project to keep my hands busy and i want my end results to mimic a 70's Precision thats been used but well loved just as much as the 60's CV idea was to be a tribute to 60's era P basses..not a recreation but a definite homage.

if you have always wanted to mod but havent because:
Its too new
Im not handy enough
Im scared of butchering it
I dont have the space
I dont have the time
this thread should serve as inspiration to you guys. im an unhandy, grunt who spends 65+ hrs between work and commute who makes just enough to get by with a few perks who lives in an apartment and has minimal tools

if i can do it you can too.
if you have any questions about how or why i did something please feel free to PM me and ill be happy to share.

to those of you who have PMd me with tips and advice i thank you a ton. youve been amazing.

clock is ticking on my optimistic mid Feb deadline but were almost there, when the product is finished i will show detailed pics and show how i got from one bass to a completely different bass.
