my first thought was Austin TV.First thought was Kiss concealing their faces. Like I said I have worked with a bunch of gimmicky bands and find it funny that they need to do that.
The music is great complete opposite of Kiss.
Hansford Rowe has been into just intonation and twelve tone plus for decades.Did you notice that both the guitar and the bass necks have quarter tones?
It's the first time I see a bass with quarter tones…

Nifty. I don't recognize his looper but it clearly has a couple of independent loops. I have a Boss RC-50 that has three. Infinite creativity....
In the comments for the video, Snakefinger(a Residents associate, of course), Primus, Beefheart, Death From Above ‘79, and Buckethead were referenced in comparison, and I’d add Fred Frith(and by extention, Henry Cow), plus 80’s Irish band Stump as well.
That’s all on a musical level, and then let’s not forget the godfathers of guitar looping, Fripp and Eno…and ol’ Bri was quite the freakazoid clothes horse back in the day. The angular look reminds me of certain Weimar Republic era expressionist films, plus the artwork of Gary Panter(Pee Wee’s Playhouse and Frank Zappa album covers).
Kev Hopper is #3 on the list of innovative fretless Wal players, after Jones and Karn.OMG, STUMP! Nobody knows about Stump! Respect.![]()
Here they are before customs and double neck. I love how they evolved that already awesome concept.
At 8:00 they hint at their future, more absurd direction.
The concert tonight was fabulous! It's been a very long time since I had not seen such a great show.I know the venue, it's super small. It could be impossible to enter…
You haven't seen them live, have you? You may not like their music, but I can tell you they are real performers.Points for trying to get people's attention, I'll give them that much. The distinction between musical performance and vaudeville being acknowledged, in this age of TicToc-brain I guess the latter seems more necessary. I can't fault them for that.
They sure entered the bloodstream pretty big, it seemed they turned up in quite a few Talk bass members YouTube algorithms including mine. I'm stoked for them, they got me for sure. It's always great to see something new and out of the ordinary, which this certainly is. Not my thing, though. As we know, all new music is influenced by and a reaction to the music that came before it. The new variable here is AI, which, if you asked it to make something like this up, it would fail miserably. Which makes me happy.
This article (in French) explains that the frets on the guitar/bass are split in two so he can play 1/4 tones.

Septembre 2025.
