Playing on a baritone guitar and a drums, they create compositions that are mostly instrumental, embellished with short thunderous poems with cynical and labyrinthine accents. Here is a good system to play quartertone music on a conventionally fretted guitar:

Neutral thirds tuning.
(Neutral third = 3.5 semitones.)
All the intervals between the open strings are tuned to neutral thirds.

This might seem a weird tuning, but quartertone scales and chords map onto the fretboard in a beautiful and surprisingly playable way.
Unlike many other systems, this tuning is uniform across the strings, so shapes and patterns can be moved anywhere without changing shape.

To tune the strings that are a quartertone (50 cents) sharp:
Use a chromatic tuner that displays the 'closest chromatic note'.
When the tuner is constantly switching back and forth between two adjacent chromatic notes, that will be the midpoint between those chromatic notes, and therefore 50 cents above the lower note.

Tuning example for 4 string bass guitar:

I call this 'Face tuning' :)

High
Eb + 50 cents .... (standard G - 3.5 semitones)
C ........................ (standard D - 2 semitones)
Ab + 50 cents .... (standard A - 0.5 semitones)
F ........................ (standard E + 1 semitone)
Low

Ideally, a special string set with appropriate gauges should be constructed from single strings.
However a standard 4 string bass set can usually be retuned to the above tuning without problems, it just results in a 'light top' set, and the guitar setup (neck relief, string height, intonation) might need adjustment due to the reduced total string tension.

They were on Québec's most popular talk show last Sunday.

They play at the end of the segment.

We learn that they've been playing together since the age of 13. Their album came out in 2024 and they started making the buzz locally playing different festivals in 2025.

Quickly, managers from abroad approached them to play in the USA and Europe.

The show featured on KEXP was recorded in France and went super viral. Now, they're sold out everywhere from New-York to London and beyond.

They have a 2nd album coming out in April.

Ah ah, I feel soooooo lucky:
  • I discovered them just when they started to become viral (at the beguining of this thread)
  • A few days later they played in Paris at the Supersonic, a small venue (max 300 people) just next to my office. It was **free** (I just paid $8 for a large beer)
  • I went there 4 hours before the gig, just in case. I did well: a few hours later the entire street was filled with people who were unable to attend the concert
  • During the gig, I was standing at a few meters away from them, I could literally touch the stage
  • I couldn't help but dancing during all the show (normally I never dance). It's not obvious when you listen to their recorded music, but live it's incredibly danceable. They played many songs from the second album, it's even better than the first one
  • Now they are famous, they will probably play in much bigger stages where you can hardly see them, with 6 months reservation and pricey tickets…

Always great when you catch an upcoming act right before they become big.
I had a chance to see Alain Caron in a small Montréal venue just as he had formed Le Band and before their album came out in 1993. People were literally up on the tables grooving and cheering along with them!

Ohh! Usually, I hate to be in a crowd but for them, I think I can do it!

Just discovered them after the last Sunday TV show « controverse » : some says that public broadcaster shouldn't pay a dime for that kind of silliness. They are far from silly: a lot of work musically, all the artistic approach! Being a King Crimson, Gentle Giant and Middle-Eastern music lover, I am a big fan!

Also, I am born in the same town, Chicoutimi, 53 years ago (some say they are from Saint-Fulgence, now part of Ville Saguenay, like Chicoutimi). Saguenay' s Power!

Just to add: the outfits were a joke they made with their other band: they had two shows in a small venue. The second show was one week later and they didn't wanted people to know that they had seen/listened to them one week prior.

The joke remained and they expanded on that.

About the double neck instrument, it's basically a Strat and a Precision, with quarter tones as already mentioned. The Luthier, Breton, located in Alma, Lac St-Jean now receives calls and emails from all around the world…

***Did my music college in Alma… some memories… and some loss of memories 😜
