Anime junkies!

Dunno how I missed this thread! I've been into anime since before I even knew it was anime. I'm pretty sure it's something that'll stick with me for as long as I live too, even if I do hide it from most of my friends, lol!

I couldn't pick a favorite with a gun to my head but here are some that I really dig:

Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann
Code Geass
NHK ni Youkoso
Air Master
Tetsuwan Birdy: Decode

I tried to mention ones that I haven't seen posted already. I have this huge running list of series I've seen and series that I want to watch and it gets bigger every season! The only anime I don't seem to get along with are magical girl stuff (with the exception of Sailor Moon, lol) and the psychological dramas like Chaos:Head and Paranoia Agent. Pretty much everything else I'll watch... and I do mean everything, lol. Really digging this season actually but I'm also in the middle of watching Mai-Hime which I like a lot so far. Eventually I'll get around to playing some covers of anime tunes :D.

Have you seen Birdy the Mighty Decode: 02?

Vastly superior to the first season. Vaaastly.

Favorite anime bassist Lead singer is of course Mio Akiyama from the Japanese anime group K-On!! Here is a youtube clip and her pic.

oh man, i like both of your dislikes.. i havent watched any new anime in a while.. been watching deathnote on netflix.. but it feels a little convoluted to me

I would offer that SOME have thinned the line between (Hentai & Anime) especially in a printed format. If categorization exists solely on sexuality perhaps a clearer distinction could exist. But if violence is pornographic (which some would argue) then I would imagine that the distinction become less clear.

Exactly, how I feel about Death Note! It's not a 'smart' show so much as whoever wrote the story really wanted it to seem that way. Even still, it ain't bad.

yeah, you hit the nail on the head. what bugged me was how fast light fell into hubris and went pretty much crazy with power.. like half way thru episode 1.. they coulda eased into a descent into madness and made the show much better IMO

but yeah its still better than alot of crap out there

One of my favorites is Reign: The Conqueror. It's a retelling of the Alexander The Great story with some interesting anachronisms. The anime was created by the same person who created Aeon Flux, so it has that strange animation style that takes a little getting used to at first. I haven't see that series in years.

Trigun is definitely one of my favorites, though. When I recently saw that it was streaming on Netflix, I had to watch it in a whole weekend (I haven't seen it in years either). I even watched a few episodes when I got home after a gig at 4:00 on the morning. :D Vash is probably one of my favorite fictional heros, ever.

I also love FLCL.

I saw Blue Gender years ago, as well. I thought it had a lot more depth than the average mecha anime. I didn't know it was based on Starship Troopers.

Not exactly sure where this came from but, personally, I think the line between regular anime and hentai is very clear. Graphic depiction of sexual acts (violent or otherwise) and/or nudity below the waist = hentai. Everything else is just anime. That said, if a non-anime-savvy friend walks in on you with a ginormous set of animated boobies on your computer screen I doubt they'll consider the differences, lol.

I was once shown anime porn by a now ex boyfriend...not sure what he was hoping to achieve by that and I really didn't need to know that his father watched the same stuff..hopefully not at the same time as my ex.

If I was to go for any romance in an anime or manga weather just hinted at or more it'd have to be shonen-ai (think Gravitation) or yaoi (which I think is created mostly by females for a female audience but may be wrong about this which is different from bara)

LOL! How would anyone go about introducing they're girl/boy-friend to hentai? That just screams awkward.

Anyway, I've actually read and watched Gravitation. A friend dared me and I ended up getting the entire series, lol. I liked it and even got the soundtrack to the anime.

Black Lagoon - Bad Ass - I love me some Revy :)

Baccano! Pretty enjoyable

Blood + I watched 30 some odd episodes and stopped. I couldn't stand the main character anymore. I'm surpised I made it that far.

I'm watchind D. Gray Man right now. Pretty cool so far. Lots of action not a ton of fluff.
Still have to finish Trigun. Pretty cool show only at 11 episodes or so.

haha. I have maybe 2 friends who like to watch anime. I watched Gantz after a google search a few years ago. Then one of my buddies suggested Death Note. This past year I've watched a bunch.
Code Geass got it really rolling. That is a great anime. Sort of like Death Note but less boring.
I found a bunch on this site that appeal to my tastes

They have them classified by tags and also lists "similar" animes to ones you've already seen (Kind of like LastFM). Which is helpful.
