Annoying things that tipsy people do at gigs...

Ha. "What do you mean you won't play Kid Rock?"

Sorry, Maam. We have an active cease and desist order from Mr. Rock's attorneys prohibiting us from doing so. We will incur a $500 fine for each one of his songs we play. However, if you are willing to cover that fee...

I am using that line the next time someone asks us to play "Roadhouse Blues"!

The hair thing. I've had long hair my whole life. Even before I was a BarStar, people would walk up to me as a kid and want to play with my hair. IT'S HAIR!!! Pretty much everyone has it. It's not like I have feathers growing out of my head.

Now, I have to admit, as a guy, I never minded hot women wanting to "pet" my hair. I can see, though, how it might freak out the OP. I certainly wouldn't want guys coming up to me and doing that.

I retired from BarStardom four years ago. I don't miss the drunk crap at all.

I'm truly amazed I've never lost any teeth from getting my mic stand slammed into my face over the years. That's the most consistent annoying that happens to me personally.

Over the years had all kinds of idiots making comments about the various female singers I've worked with. That's meltdown annoying. Even worse for them but a strain on my restraint nonetheless.

Had a drunk guy (a cop, just for extra entertainment value) pull a gun on another drunk guy who was heckling the band and tell him if he didn't shut up he'd blow his head off. That wasn't annoying but rather terrifying, even though I'd kinda been wishing someone would do just that to the guy not thirty seconds before it happened. Turns out it's a great fantasy but an absolute pants-crapper in real life. We did not get asked back to that gig.

I'm really annoyed with the Freebird guy.
He must be magical, because he's at everyone's gigs.

I'm only somewhat annoyed by the ex-washed-up musico that "just wants to jam with us".
He can't help it, the feelings come back strong when you've been away from the stage for a while.

I'm not annoyed at all by the women flirting with me. because it never happens. I'm an old fart.

And I don't mind at all (somewhat amused) by the bass players that want to talk gear after the gig while you break down your stuff. Most of them have never heard of your gear, because its not Ibanez, Fender, or Ampeg, and they are usually blown away with your tone. "How do you get that sound without pedals?" It's all in the eq and fingers, man.

Had a drunk guy at a show keep yelling "turn the bass down! the bass is too loud!" at me in between songs. Sorry dude, maybe don't stand directly in front of my cab if you don't want to hear it. Eventually the sound guy made him leave.
Wow .... that must be the exact same guy that showed up to one of my gigs... He was telling me to turn my bass down every chance he could and he wasn't even affiliated with the club or sound guy.... meanwhile the band thought the bass was just right, which is rare....LOL

For two and a half years I played five nights a week at a roadhouse in California that had the roughest looking clientele I had ever seen. In that time, there was only one fight inside the bar, and it happened on the sole occasion when the six or seven Hell’s Angels regulars happened to not be there. Who knew?
The real MC players keep everything cool. No gear gets lifted and no fights last very long.

Just be respectful, don't try to start up a conversation or stare at their women.

My band has one gig every couple months at a bar that is known for overserving, and every time we play there’s 2 or 3 bachelorette parties there at the same time. I’ve been flashed (which I can’t complain because boobies but it was really uncomfortable), people try to high five and fist bump me WHILE I’m playing, people try to grab our microphones, get on stage, one girl was flinging beer at us during the “ba da dat da” part of The Proclaimers’ 500 miles.

And I don’t know if it’s because I’m the bass player or because I look the least busy compared to the lead singer and lead guitarist who has his eyes closed, but people always want to bring their requests to me MID-SONG and when I shrug or say “sorry we don’t all know it.” they act like I’ve personally wronged them for not knowing Dixie Chicks or Cardi B.

I haven't had any bad issues with tipsy people at gigs. Just the usual ones who want to talk to you while you're playing. Why do they always pick the bass player?? :meh:

In the late 70s my wife and I got a room at a Holiday Inn the night before attending a Grateful Dead concert. Our side of the motel was us and about a dozen Hell's Angels. I never felt safer in my life. I mean NO ONE was going to break into a room when outlaw choppers were parked outside

"Can I sing the next song?" No.
"Dude, sweet bass, can I try it out?" No.
"Do you guys know how to play Freeb-" No.
"Dude, you should turn your bass up/down." No. We have a sound guy for that.
"Can I use your PA speaker stand for a dance pole?" NO!

Okay, she didn't ask that last question, but a woman tried to do that mid song and the PA column started to topple over. I was able to shoot an arm out before she (or somebody else) got squished.

The best gig, every year, for drunk shenanigans is St. Patrick's Day. The crowd thinks WE'RE the entertainment!
I’ve been reading through all everyone’s and so many are familiar.

I don’t have a mind-blowing story or anything. I just know if Drunk Guy approaches the stage with “Can I... ?“ or “Can you... ?”, the answer is no.

View attachment 3188804 I am pretty easy going and don’t even mind hugs from the occasional drunk guy but lately for whatever reason girls have started coming up to me on breaks and while complimenting the band they start playing with my hair ...it’s happened several times as of late and frankly it’s kinda creepy lol...I think I may take breaks away from the crowd for awhile ;-)
(Inserted pic for reference lol) What do you find annoying?
My favorite is a patron wanting to play my bass (or guitar in the past). "Let me play _____ song, man!" Proceeds to get on the stage and tells me to give him the instrument. I can see fist-a-cuffs happening eventually.

I really enjoyed the ones who insist on you bending over and coming closer to them so you can hear them. I used to stand there and tell them, "I can hear you just fine." Because, who doesn't love a drunk grabbing your head and holding it there while they scream in your ear to ensure you hear them.

Overly "friendly" people are annoying whether drunk or sober.

Seems you are well within your rights to be a little creeped out with people touching your hair. That's kind of like back in the days when my wife was pregnant and people would rub her belly? WTH?

I made this when my wife was pregnant. I cannot believe I've never found any evidence of such a meme prior. Several people told me I should make shirts but I just didnt have the energy. (Had to keep up with a stressed out, exhausted, sick, and often crazy woman)
