The tens make a huge difference. In our church the 15's just don't work with a larger ported cabinet.

I used my Ampeg BA115HP for over a year and it was pretty good but nothing compared to the tight punchy tone of the 210 cabinet I'm using. The acoustics in our church just prefer the tens.

In church i currently use my warwick rig with just the 2x10 , with the 115 its overkill! I use the 115 as well if we play at a larger church for baptisms and such!!

I read in Chris Tomlin's book that sometimes awkward soundguys (like one he encountered) with are called "stewards of the human ear" , Some church soundguys can be fussy. I play my rig at volume around 3 with a touch in the P.A. The congregation complain if the music is too loud............wait till they get to heaven , they'll hear some noise then!!

They'll have PERFECT ears then without worry of deterioration due to loud sounds...but I know what you mean.

I'm a strange one when it comes to loud sounds. if I'm making the loud sound AND want to hear loud sound...I TURN IT UP. usually if I'm not playing I don't like the volume to be out of my control, due to hearing loss paranoia. I carry ear plugs with me to church and concerts etc... just in case... so I know how some people feel

PA:

Two Tuba 36's. (Bill Fitzmaurice)
Two lower end CGM tops (Soon to be DR290's)
Two EWI amps. I forget the model's.

Two Allen & Heath Mixwiz 16:2's. (One for FOH, one for the monitor rig).
Monitoring, we all use (All 7 of us :D) the Westone UM2's.

New rig!

My band uses one to three Bose PAS, each with 2 B1 modules. Generally we play at churches that have little exposure to contemporary praise music, and they do not have PA systems. I plug into my BBE BMAX-T straight into a channel in the PS1.

When we do smallish sized places that have a PA, I'll run my EBS HD-350 and Accugroove Tri210L.

When we are really going to crank it up, I am going to start using my BBE BMAX-T into my soon-to-arrive Crest CA9 into my Tri210L and some other cabinet that I will eventually buy. Probably a Tri115, but I don't know yet.

Currently, I am playing...

Fender American Jazz V -> Boss Tuner Pedal -> Hartke KickBack 15 (as a monitor) -> FOH via direct out

Hartke sits on a Auralex GRAMMA isolation pad.

Sounds great, everybody's pretty happy with the sound, but I'm always looking for something better.

Things I'm thinking about:

Phill Jones Briefcase -AND/OR-

Thunderfunk TFB 550-B Head -OR-
EA iAmp800 Head
with ______________cab (fill in the blank) -OR-

GK Neo 212 Combo (with 1001RB-II) -OR-

Eden Navigator WP-100B

Looking for the right power amp at the right price. A tough ask for us in Australia. Presently, I'm stealing the spare QSC 2450 for power. This all runs into a Fender 4x10 that lives at church. It ain't mine but it sounds quite nice.

I'm considering an Eden Bass wedge for foldback...however I've never heard or used one or even spoken to someone who has. There certainly aren't many around for me to try in Australia.

I use an Ampeg BA115. With the DI sent to the house wich is where things get really NICE.

The signal runs through this chain:

1.Benavente SCD5
2.Ampeg BA115
3.Allen & Heath Console
4.Various Effects,Reverb,Compressor Units
5.Ashly Power amps-(17,000 watts!!!)
6.EAW Mains,Monitors and Subwoofers-(4x15)

We also have the Listen In Ear Monitor System with Shure e-2's, so I just use the BA115 for the pants flappin' action...lol

But the FOH has plenty of power and luckily our sound engineer loves bass.

to maximize the soundguys happiness, we have done away with bass rigs (any rigs) at my church. Everyone goes direct (i use an aggie db924 to boost my signal) to the board, and we each get a monitor wedge.

the only problem is all the guitar players (electric) need their amps cause they don't have a DI so they get miked. they're still so pesky loud.

At our church we were using headphones, but the piano was blasting me out. So now they let me use my Focus and VL110. The music director likes to hear my bass, so he over ruled the sound guy. The only problem was that the guitar player wanted to bring his rig. Since he was loud and it carried, we were having issues. Now he just brings his pedal board and goes into an ART tube direct box. Gives him some tubey goodness and now I can turn down enough that the soundguy is happy with me and not having the guitar amp onstage.

I use headphones at some other churches I play at. I don't like the headphones as much, b/c I can't hear the choir and orchestra as well. I'd rather hear as much acoustically as possible; or have it come from a little farther away. Just me. That was I don't feel isolated from everyone.

I'm thinking of substituting my 115 with the 210 at church because the 210 has better definition, goes really low for a 210, is less boomy than the 115, and has a less noticeable visible presence on stage.

Since this thread still lives I'll upate my rig. I'm still using my good ol' Peavey 115 but now my head is a Genz Benz GBE600. More articulate than the Ampeg, and has more footswitchable tonal options.

The Nitrobass has also been switched out and my optional head which I usually use at home is a Traynor YBA200.

Those Eden bass wedges are the BOMB! I may have to rethink my cab setup for a cab I am building to make a wedge/

I go direct to the board
with either my Jazz or Spector

the drummer ,rhythm acoustic, electric guitar and I all use
Aviom personal monitor consoles where we dial in our mix

so i get my own monitor sound mix in my headphones

all the singers. lead acoustic and percussionist uses a wedge monitor

I plan to use a Sansamp or ERB someday to help tweak my sound since I am currently relying on my onboard preamps and pups

I bring my bass and the church has everything else:

Pod (tube pre, flat)
Mackie board
Yamaha, BBE and Alesis processing (reverb, eq, compression, etc)
Yamaha power amps and cabs - including 18" subs
my own monitor and mix

It's a preatty sweet set up.
