Another Shooting

My brain nor are my ears influenced to think that I hear words that are not there.
Interpretation of Trivium - YouTube

Be honest now. Tell me what you hear when you watch this video.

Also, just to correct you, this isn't a case of hearing words that "are not there", but hearing a sound and interpretting that as a word based on priming of your mind. THis is exactly what the video I've posted (and many others) can clearly demonstrate. If you honestly believe that your mind is not susceptable to the same kind of priming that every other person's mind is, I'm afraid you're probably delusional (in the strict medical sense of the term).

I haven't seen any report indicating this one way or another. If you have a link, would you please post it?

I have heard it mentioned on several news reports that Zimmerman was allowed to take his gun home.

Here's one link.

And this is just sad(read below).

In fact, it looks like the Sanford police want to try to escape the scrutiny they are receiving because, for three days, Trayvon's body was in a morgue with a "John Doe" tag, despite the fact that the policy were in custody of Trayvon's cell phone, which was ringing incessantly as Trayvon's father was trying to find his son. The Sanford police never answered the phone nor tried to dial a number on the phone to find out who "John Doe" was.

Have any legitimate news sources reported the same information about the gun?

I hear c***. That doesn't mean I'm infallible. I'm guessing I have a bit of hearing loss after 35 years of bass playing!

As far as Trayvon being drug tested, I wouldn't read anything into that. I think you will find that ANYONE who dies in unnatural circumstances is drug and alcohol tested as part of an autopsy. I DO agree that Zimmerman should have been tested, and should not have been able to keep his gun. I think the people saying the Sanford PD conspired to hide the truth may be going a little far, although I can see why they'd say that. I think it's more a case of incompetence and fear of that incompetence being exposed.

Gotta love a chick named Poppy Crum.

Anyone else troubled by how willing people have been to assume the worst of a Zimmerman and the Sanford PD?

It's hard not to assume the worst based on what we know - and we do know much more than when this thread started.

The more we learn about everything here only continues to expose both Zimmerman and the Police as incompetent and malicious entities in this tragedy.

I have the hardest time getting past how Zimmerman - a person who admitted to shooting and killing an unarmed minor - who's own words prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that he was intent on stopping Trayvon at all costs and that he had already decided on Trayvon's guilt - how he was allowed to WALK without even a cursory examination - That they simply took his WORD and went with that... It's mind boggling to say the least.

The title of your first link would indicate some possible bias from the source. Perhaps something from a major news source or newspaper?

The second link...the Gamers With Jobs forum. Really?

If you don't like or trust the sources you can do your own research or offer up sources that contradict what's being said.

I attempted to find info on the gun and couldn't find anyone saying it one way or another. As far as the Gamers With Jobs info, heres a link to a NYT column:

Martin's parents found out the next day. We don't really have any info about the cell phone except from the Martin lawyers. Early on many people were saying if the 911 tapes would support the police they would have released them. I wonder why the Martin lawyers don't post the cell records. If they have a call list showing Trayvon on the phone at the time of the shooting it could be the death blow to the police investigation.

The subconscious is a powerful thing.

We don't even have to invoke the subconscious. Language processing is a very complicated task that we carry out largely unconsciously - much like walking or breathing. We can only ever become somewhat aware of the processes involved, or seek to exert conscious control over them. Our brains and senses are equipped to deal with language without our having to pay attention to it - or we would have extremely slow conversations!

Did they not get the "Don't use the words Lynch Mob" memo? I'm moving outta the way so everyone who lambasted me for using that EXACT verbage can get to the writer of this article. But I'm also predicting a quantity of "but that's different" posts.

Zimmerman actually lynched someone.

The writer of the headline* is talking about someone who actually did kill someone.

When you used that in this discussion, it was about a crowd of people who hadn't actually killed anyone. I'm not sure if they were even calling out for anyone's death or not.

I've been really trying to listen to all voices in this debate, but I'm kind of astounded that you DON'T see the difference here.
