Anthony Jacksons new Fodera bass

As far as I'm aware the term 'presentation' was used for the mahagony topped one for the first time.
This was not the fist single cut bass.
As always ...I may be wrong.
From the Presentation II page on Fodera's site Link Removed:
"The Presentation II proudly commemorates both the 30th Anniversary of Fodera Guitars (1983) as well as the 25th Anniversary of the very first Anthony Jackson Presentation (1988)...hence a very special "Double Anniversary."
"Rendezvous" was recorded in '93
I stand corrected as well. the Presentation is indeed the codification of all the improvements AJ and Vinnie made to his great single-cutaway basses over the years, and wasn't built till after Rendevous.

I'm smiling in EVERY picture that has ever been taken of me. I've also won the lottery every time I've played, oh and New York...I own it.
Actually (laughing) the best part of AJ's new bass is watching anyone at NAMM but AJ try to pick it up. A few of us know that story but I'm not telling it. Now THAT moment in time would have made a great picture.....wasn't me for the record.
i believe this to be AJ's most "orchestral" solo to date. all his influences smile down from the heavens..

...and I think the second most recent one ( and the first I still think, they called 'Presentation') is from '96.
I am also quite convinced that in a bassplayer interview he said that around that time they were working on a presentation model. Not 'another 'presentation model-best chack with jason over in the fodera thread
Also ...why would they call the present one 'Presentation II' if all the previous foderas were called 'Presentation'?
I think the 1988 just refers to the year in which the collaboration between the bassist and the builder began.
As always... I may well be wrong.

I heard that he is socially awkward. He just doesn't know how to deal with people around him. I also heard that he used to play in the back behind a beam so people couldn't see him.

The PII is identical in size to the Presentation except for the depth which has been increased to 4" to accommodate its hollow structure and allow more air in the internal cavity.

It is the same external shape (except for the depth), but the internal bracings and method used to attach the neck are completely different. Both the top and back are also carved on the inside to be thinner and more of an acoustic element as compared to the top on the Presentation I which was only carved on the outside. So, all in all, it is a very, very significantly different instrument than the PI. It sounds very different too...

The instrument was designed for the way AJ plays -- which is seated in an almost classical guitar playing position. It is quite playable in that position -- if that is what you want and are willing to modify your playing style to get the tone that the PII provides.
As for the tone...remember that this is not (and was not intended to be) an acoustic bass. That is why we call it a "Hybrid." While the increased depth of the sound cavity and hollow-body construction have moved the tone a bit more into acoustic territory, it is still very much rooted in the sound we are accustomed to from solid body instruments.
There is no question that these are not for everyone. Between the super-wide spacing, 36" scale and the overall size of the instrument, the player is definitely making a conscious decision to accept the ergonomic "compromises" imposed on them in search of a certain kind of tone.
That said, the PII really needs to be heard live through a great rig to understand what is going on here. I have yet to hear a sound clip of it that comes remotely close to what it sounds like in person. I am not going to qualify that sound one way or another, but I will offer that AJ has not played his earlier Presentation (#10) since he took delivery of the PII.
I hope that this all makes sense...

Actually, Vinny and Joey didn't see a "meal ticket" in quite the way Ken described as much as AJ decided that it made zero sense to go through a middle man when building an instrument of such complexity. Since at that time Vinny was doing all of the woodwork on Ken's instruments, AJ decided that he would rather work directly with Vinny rather than speaking with Ken and having him try to convey what needed to be done to the luthier doing the work.

I admire the dedication the people in your shop have with the uncomprimising AJ collaboration.
I'll confess; if I were approching hour 250 working on a bass, I might start questioning the parity of that relationship!

Out of curiosity: AJ tours a lot, a there special precautions taken with the Presentation II?
I assume it is more "fragile" that its solid body predecessor: does it get its own seat on a plane as a rule? I don't suppose AJ travel with twin Presentations...
